Great to have you guys aboard. Southern Miss is pretty much centered in the SBC West. You should develop some great rivalries with Louisiana, South Alabama, Troy, and ULM quickly as the geography is so tight.
I look forward to my Red Wolves kicking some USM butt and getting our butt kicked in return. I have been an admirer of USM since the 80s when you burst onto the national scene.
It is an honor to have you in the SBC.
Together We Rise !!

Thank you sir.
I'll be the first to admit when I saw this I was a little confused, then when I went back and looked at the SBC, who was in and realized this wasn't the old SBC I got excited.
This is a better move for us. CUSA was getting a little widespread as is the AAC. This is more compact and we could build excellent rivalries. There's already the stigma of we can't beat USA . I look forward to building the rivalries with the Alabama and Louisiana schools. I think the west division can be really fun.
On top of that, we'll be on ESPN again. As someone who lives out of the footprint of the SBC and CUSA, this excites me. I don't have to look at the schedule and see if we'll be on CBS Sports on a Wednesday night.
The last thing I'm liking the schools here actually have fans.

Let's get this going.
I agree. After all of our old peer rivals left us behind in previous realignment shuffling, Southern has had a large degree of apathy from a lot of fans. You don’t get that excited to play against a team from a thousand miles away that is going to bring 50 fans to the game. Our biggest excitement games lately have been against teams nearby, who bring fans and where we can travel to easily. It’s a lot easier to care passionately about a game if it’s close enough to go to as an away game every other year. That builds rivalries. I love the potential we have for rivalries in the Sun Belt. I’m stoked.

Definitely glad to be in SBC with the Wolves. Let’s get after it!

To your point the 2012 season coupled with being left behind again and playing new teams I've never heard of (Charlotte, ODU) or teams we have no history with killed a lot interest for me.

Extremely unfortunate the timing of our struggles. Prior to the previous round of realignment, there were several teams I cared about beating. I’d keep up with how they did and could probably tell you their record or at least whether they were good or not weeks ahead of time. After the realignment, I couldn’t tell you who we were playing in a couple of weeks and would have to look up whether we were going to get our butts kicked or actually compete. I’ll actually follow Sun Belt games now, unlike in CUSA. Plus being able to more easily watch other games in conference helps immensely.

Please. We used to be a great group but I feel like after the last round air got taken out of us and we became apathetic. Didn't help we made 2 bad hires.
yeah no doubt.. I still check this and the unfiltered board daily, but rarely post any more.. Got a kid at FSU and one at Troy, so I haven't been to H'burg in a few years now for a game. That along with year 3 of Hop sealed the deal that my money and heart were on other campuses.
Still bleed B&G though, so I've just been dormant. But I'll say, it's pretty hard to go sit at an FSU v Notre Dame game and not be jealous of that type of atmosphere.

I'm not on FB, but I think a lot of folks just post there.
There’s a group on Facebook, but most posts end up breaking down into arguments between the happy sunshine folks and the more sarcastic cynical types. Those who believe you should support all the teams and the university no matter what (often called koolaid drinkers or TTTers) vs those who are mostly critical of everything and often call for coaches to be fired quite often.
It can be amusing at times to see those who try to use their negativity superstitiously to bring about good results (to keep the teams from having a “To The Top” moment) get criticized by the happy folks who don’t understand the negativity yields positive results antijinx mindset.
I’ve quit following the group on Facebook, mostly because it’s hard to filter which posts I see. At least here, if I don’t want to read something, I can see the heading so I know not to click it.
