I like how close all the MAC teams are on that map.

Sun Belt and MWC look like bubbles out of a comic strip that has someone talking. Well MWC's looks like the character is 15 panels away.

I do too, but still need to add a MAC logo for Akron and perhaps soon, WKU.

Akron is there with Kent. You have to zoom in to see the separation. Just mousewheel over the pic.

At first I thought, "Huh, the MAC didn't get connected like the other conferences." Then I realized I had to zoom in to see that because they're so close...!

That tight group of AL-LA-MS schools is a welcome sight. It's going to make road trips fun again.

That really illustrates how long a trip Hawai'i is.

When the Great Realignment of 2011-14 happened, I heard from an insider based on the west coast regarding Hawai'i. They said that UH really doesn't have a lot of money and the prospect of flying their women's soccer and baseball teams to Provo, Boise, Laramie, Fort Collins and Albuquerque was awful, especially since there's no direct flights. So the Big West was the best option since all those teams are Cali and all but one are driving distance from LAX. Saves them a good bit of money from being in the Mountain West as a full member.

I’m a certified map geek, so love this. Yeah, not that we don’t already know it, lol, but man Hawaii is sure out there.

And yeah, this really shows how tight the footprint is for the MAC. The AAC is spread out, but at least has some clusters, while poor little C-ICU is just a cluster. A cluster of outliers, among a whole lot of other issues! Gotta wonder if the ruston admin is still celebrating that *huge* premium that they had the honor of dishing out to join it, lol.

And then there is the SBC, being just right! Really just one outlier, which is not a big deal for that division, and at least it’s a great destination. Not much not to love with great conference!

With the exception of Hawaii, I was really quite surprised to see how geographically compact the Mountain West conference is. With my eastern mentality, I assumed that there were miles and miles and miles between all of these western school. That doesn’t seem to be the case, Based on this map.

You know, I had that same thought. Given the vast area that the schools encompass, I was expecting it to look worse. Don’t get me wrong though, and don’t be fooled, there is still a lot of traveling they need to do.

West Virginia isn't that bad of an outlier

I appreciate all the feedback. Hopefully I fixed all the problems. I plan on making a map of the P5 conferences and lower divisions for reference too.

I live outside Charlotte, and have all 7 eastern schools closer to me than Florida. Very exciting.

USA/Mobile is closer to 4 other states than it is to UAB.

The layers aren't turned on. If you're on mobile click the show legend tab on the bottom and you can turn the different conference layers on and off.
