If you include supplemental compensation, VCU coach salary was $1.5 million.

So did Huge have a money cannon ready to fire at a big name who backed out so she went cheap instead, or was the plan "find someone and figure out the money later"? Because if it's the latter I think I know what went wrong.

True. Dane has that, too, at a nominal level. $100k if he makes or maybe wins a NCAAT game. Compensation for wins, hosting certain teams, etc

One other thing that we offer coaches is a state pension just like all the other state government employees. Nobody has ever mentioned that, but Shaver is dipping into that money too. Same think with other coaches who were here a long time and others in the athletic department.

Fischer’s five-year contract is from April 8, 2019 to June 30, 2024. His base salary is $225,000 per year and he gets a $75,000 bonus each year: $25,000 for retention, $25,000 for media participation and $25,000 fundraising and community outreach participation.

In addition, each year Fischer is eligible for a 3 or 5 percent increase depending on the team’s season performance. He also gets a country club membership, a phone stipend and a “late model car appropriate for a Division I Head Basketball Coach” or $4,000 stipend.

In the first year of Fischer’s contract, including moving expenses, Fischer will get $270,000.

Does he lose $25K for not having the end of year banquet this year?

Look at the total compensation, not just the base salary. Base salaries for most schools are fairly low, then the compensation doubles or triples with (mostly very attainable) incentives (many of which are pro forma).
