U. of SC is on the verge of hiring BJ Mackie or so the rumors are trending. I would love to see BJ get a head coaching job at a SEC school. But, I am just curious as to why BJ wasn't hired as the HC at ETSU when Forbes left for WF? And secondly when the guy that replaced Forbes quit or got fired, whatever it was, why wasn't BJ hired then as ETSU HC for MBB?

I would just love to hear opinions of fans that are in the know.

Because at the time BJ didn't have the experience that Shay had, both overall and with the ETSU program.
Because why in the hell would he want to leave Wake for the clusterF that was ETSU and ETSU probably decided they needed a clean break away from the "Forbes" tree.
BJ is a cult hero at South Carolina in basketball, that is why he is in the running.
Last I heard it was between him and Lamont Paris but I would for sure give the nod to BJ in that scenario.

Speaking of former coaches that might have made good hires at ETSU.
Greg Heiar just won the JUCO national title at Northwest Florida (the school
Forbes, along with Shay and Savage coached at before coming here)
He won it at Koch Arena home of Wichita State where he was an assistant with Forbes.
in fact he cited Marshall, Forbes, and Jans as the 3 biggest influences on his career.

I see what you are saying and agree with your comments.

I like Jans a lot as a coach. I remember we pursed him when Forbes left but not sure how serious he was about us, I always got the feeling he just looked interested so he could get a pay raise at NMSU. I like Heiar as well but strongly doubt he'd ever considered ETSU again after the Shay debacle.
