Postseason Tournaments non-NCAA/NIT
Did you guys notice the drama with the new CIT tournament? Now called The Basketball Classic, they only got 21 (yes, an odd number) of teams to commit. Far short of the 32 teams desired. Wofford ended up pulling out ahead of their game. I think some other teams did as well. Wofford Withdraws Tweet

On the opposite end of the spectrum: The CBI looks like they’re in good shape. They have their usual 16 teams, including VMI and UNCG. They also have both semifinals and their finals on ESPN2. Pretty solid.

Congratulations, you've been chosen to participate in a postseason tourney, however, you gotta pay us to play.

While the pay to play is hogwash, i did like watching the bucs play in another game when we played in a couple of these in years past.

I loved the Mercer run in the CIT (10 years ago!). I think it will be good if only the CBI survives. It will mean a little more to get into it. If the new CIT continues, I’d be shocked. ETSU was also part of the failed Vegas tournament. I was surprised that one didn’t get more traction, who doesn’t love Vegas!?

With the new free-agency moving talent to the power 5 teams, are these the mid-major tournament of the future?

I expect the NCAA tournament to become more like the women's tournament. It just isn't competitive at all.

Or, will the NIT become the mid-major tourney after the big boys reorganize under the new NCAA constitution? As for the portal, the mid-majors will lose much more than they gain.

I don't think the big boys will give up the revenue of the NIT. They will use is as their also ran and populate with their teams to gain the TV revenue.

I wish we could construct a mid-major-only tournament. Each team would need to designate whether to compete as a mid-major every five years or so, therefore making them ineligible to play in the March Madness tournament. I know it'd damper the first couple of rounds of the ''Big Dance,'' but could turn into a pretty fun system. I know, it's a pipe dream, but a better reward than Uncle Herschel's Flag Pond Tournament.

I read tonight that the NIT is leaving Madison Square Garden next year. I gathered it was a mutual decision.

Wow this is surprising to me. I always thought the Garden made the tournament special and I enjoyed the games from there. I guess they are just moving on.
