I have zero problem with NIL deals with the sky being the limit.
As for coaches complaining about them, IMO college football FBS coaches have some of the cushiest jobs in America, they get paid multi-millions per year, and collect their contract amount even if they suck and get fired for losing, being poor coaches.
That, IMO, is out of hand.

An $8 Million NIL deal?
I wonder if Peyton Manning would have had a NIL deal like this one heading into his freshman year at University of Tennessee? To me, he was probably the most known (talent & popularity wise) entity coming into college football and guaranteed to fill up 100,000 plus stadiums with millions watching on tv.

Well I guess the debate over pay for play really is over.
They're getting paid. Its just not directly through the school.

Capitalism at its finest but a total waste of money. The only reason to pay these guys is to bribe them to the school in question.
The player in question brings nothing in value of anything near $10M to any school. Were the stands filled and the team on national TV because of BY? Absolutely not. He had a tremendous year but looked terrible vs Auburn and Georgia, 2 defenses full of future NFL players.
But if Watson can get $230M for 4 wins/year, I guess anything makes sense.

I am ok with NIL no matter how big. If business can make money on it and player can make money off his OWN name and likeness, who are we to say no.

Peyton (and Eli's) nephew Arch Manning is a HS junior. Along with Grandpa Archie, he would have the celebrity to recoup a lot of that $8M investment if Arch Manning is anything like his uncles.

Arch is probably the unnamed recipient of that 8 Mil.

RE: An $8 Million NIL deal?
This article is pretty funny, especially coming from Alabama media.
Quote:"When we start using name, image and likeness for a kid to come to our school, that's where I draw the line," Saban said at a Reese’s Senior Bowl event last month. "Because that's not why we did this."
Therein lies the rub: even if every coach in the country drew the same line as Saban, it wouldn't matter, because NIL collectives can draw their own lines just about anywhere they want.
...the usual selling points in recruiting – opportunity to play, education, career development, etc. – will trend toward being afterthoughts for recruits.
OK Bama

Arch is supposed to be considering only Texas and Georgia right now. Think he was in Athens last week.
