ESPN gets most of their money from cable companies who they charge for each cable subscriber, even if they don't ever watch it. As people cut the cable, that revenue will go down and that will mean smaller contracts to sports and that's when it will affect college sports. Now, whether or not the NCAA does anything to fix it, I doubt it. To me, it's more likely that they will make rules to increasingly favor the Top 50 (P6) programs that drive viewership over mid-tier D1 programs like Kent, which will do nothing for our interest.
Honestly, this whole thing is so out of control that I have found my enjoyment of college sports drop considerably in the last ten years and I am finding new interests. Right now, I am watching the UEFA Cup quarterfinals with Arsenal and Wolfsburg for free on YouTube.

RE: Basketball Offseason
Mine has fizzled in the recent past and mostly because of the free agency. Even the pro sports have players locked up to multi-year deals, these kids are spinning the wheel every year. Dangerous game of musical chairs and not nearly enough seats, now the trickle down effect has been exposed.

The quality of education and/or the skills acquired have to be suffering. Once upon a dream a scholarship to attend, play basketball for and eventually graduate from a university like (KSU, CSU, YSU) was good enough.

Even free agency has some rules. How about if a coach leaves they can transfer, if they have graduated they can transfer, have a mechanism to approve transfers for family hardships (a real one not a rubber stamp one), other than that any transfer must be a two year commitment including the first one out of high school. It was bad enough that the really good players turn pro in one year. Now a huge % are one and done at a specific school even if they are not pro material.
Sorry Jay Bilas says I’m wrong. Just need to have quarters like the women and NBA. Allow the team to move the ball to half court after a timeout and clean up physical play. As he says there isn’t an empty seat at the Final Four. He should come to Kent on a Saturday in February!!

Most male athletes don’t care and I’m afraid the women are headed in that direction.

I agree. The NCAA waited to long to do anything. The power has been passed to ESPN and politicians.

And….he wants to transfer. His tummy must hurt because things are t perfect. This pandemic is gonna have me in a mask again soon!
I’m afraid most don’t transfer for those types of reasons. It’s just become the thing to do and I suspect they are looking for perks as much as anything else.

Arsenal and Wolfsburg??? I hope it doesn’t get that bad for me. You know no worse than the Blue Jackets and Red Wings. I understand people in Canada better than those Englishmen.

I just don't understand transferring between mid-majors. You're probably very likely not going to be a pro athlete (some will, but most not). Some guys transfer between P6 schools I get: some coaches have better connections, better training facilities, more perks. Other than personal reasons I don't understand transferring one mid-major to another. People can transfer from P6 to the MAC (Gates -although that was a very different age) for more playing time. But seriously, where are you going to go if you leave a mid-major?

European Soccer is a lot of fun. I wonder if I'll go through a cricket phase before much longer.

I wonder when we'll hear about who we're losing. Haven't even seen official news that Johnson is gone, so gotta believe there will be news in the coming weeks. With how the MAC is getting decimated if we can hold on to our top guys we'll be in a good spot heading into next year.

Allen Moff is reporting this in the RC: "All nine scholarship players eligible to return next season have told Senderoff they will be back." The article also said Johnson is no longer with the team.

Interesting. Well, whatever the case, Houston has 83 wins in the last 3 years.....and 3 home losses in that same span.

“To me that’s a really good game, because there’s no one that plays more like what we want to be known as then [Houston],” said Senderoff. “I want to make sure we give our guys some really good opportunities to play good teams next year, with who we have coming back.”

Houston is going to return everyone. They will be a top 10 team.
