Georgia State gets Gonzaga

2nd year in a row the SBC champ has gotten the 16 line...

UMBC did it against Virginia in 2018 so it's not impossible! Pulling hard for the Panthers to get the upset win. Maybe the Zags will flop Coach K style...

Man, was really hoping to avoid that. Well...we shall play the schedule placed in front of us.

EDIT: Thinking about it more, if they're going to put us against the tourney's top seed, there's a part of me that would rather have a play-in game to get there...

I admit, I forgot Jacksonville State was the AQ out of the Atlantic Sun since the league didn't certify its Tourney Champ.

Instead let's have Cal State Fullerton travel to Southeast and Georgia State to Northwest. This selection committee lacks any practical sense.

Never underestimate the overconfidence of a first seed team, especially one that expects to be where they are. Go embarrass them for us.

Once again, a conference tournament makes sense when you have teams that don't need the automatic bid to get to the NCAAs and someone else can steal the bid, but we're not a multi-bid league.

The tournament needs to DIAF, but it won't be killed because everyone wants a shot at the slot machine to be the next 2017 Troy or 2021 App.

Also screw covid for creating havoc and costing us bunch of losses early.

Sorry that was my last vent.

So I'm guessing we end up playing A&M in the NIT

If you forget, they changed bracketing recently to where seeding took priority not location. They seeded the tournament 1 to 68, and geographic location played no real role outside of the top 2 seeds getting closer sites.

Georgia State missed out on Greeneville because the Atlantic Sun certified its Regular Season champ as its AQ team. That meant another 20 plus win Jacksonville State team got a bid, and they were rated higher. That one win moved you guys from a 15 seed to the 16 and sent you from Greeneville to Portland.

I say it often the Sun Belt needs to take a long look at how we give out the auto-bid the committee has no respect for our league.

Georgia State is a pretty tough first round draw as a 16 seed. If Gonzaga gets caught looking ahead, they could find themselves in a late game dog fight.

It would be cool if our tourney could reward the top 2 regular season finishers. Somehow give them byes right to the semis. Maybe only let 8-10 teams in the tourney. No need for all 14.

SBC schools have to improve the RPI rankings. The CAA’s UD was 5th in the conference and got a 15 while GSU was 3rd and got a 16. The difference was a 36 rpi rank difference in favor of Delaware.

They need to stop scheduling non-D1 games for starters.

If seeding was how they did it, shouldn’t #1 overall Gonzaga be playing a first 4 #16 seed?

Sometimes they do that intentionally to keep solid mid major fan bases from traveling. VCU was consistently sent across the entire country to the west coast. They know their fans travel well and you can’t let that happen!
