The All In Handshake
The 21-22 sports year will conclude with the Tribe athletic department having fielded a football team that couldn't pass and put on the court a basketball team, that among other things, couldn't shoot. These shortcomings were reflected in the competitive outcomes (aka scores) and statistically. The football team did enough things well to migrate from below average to mediocre. The basketball team needed 15 minutes to take the lead against a first year Division III team, scuffled all year, and shows up at 340 in NET.

It can be argued that football and basketball are secondary missions at the alma mater of a nation. It cannot be argued that these endeavors are unimportant, or there would be no All In campaign. I gather there has been some All In traction. I'm also persuaded that serious progress is impeded because the All In donor/recipient handshake is squishy.

At this point in time, All In appears to reside primarily in the province of lofty, for the bold, moment seizing rhetoric. The rhetoric is unsurprising. It's what colleges, and one College in particular, are prone to produce. The rhetoric, however, only goes so far in attracting donors.

The squishiness of the All In handshake relates to deliverables. There are deliverables detailed for which the donor hand is responsible. The deliverables for the recipient hand are less clear. Fielding a football team that can pass and putting a basketball team on the court that can shoot are worthy additions to the list of recipient hand deliverables. I take aboard that these deliverables are easier said than done. But I also think that until these deliverables are embraced, generating All In donations will remain a tougher sale, community interest will stagnate, and attendance will wane.

Discussing the football and basketball programs as though they were currently in similar competitive circumstances is ridiculous. Football is currently fielding a quality product.

The initial post does not read as you suggest.
I am in violent agreement with you that the football team and basketball team ended their seasons at different places.
That said, I am unpersuaded the football team had a reliable passing attack.
I am persuaded that football teams that can't pass and basketball teams that can't shoot are headwinds to community interest, ticket sales and donations.

RE: The All In Handshake
I think that fans will come watch a dominant defensive team in either football or basketball as long as they WIN. Winning teams draw fans. I think passing and shooting/scoring make the game more exciting for casual fans, but winning puts butts in seats.
