2022-2023 Men's Basketball
Next year MAY be a "rebuilding" year because of transfer rules and extra eligibility years that "clogged" the normal system, but who knows? Sims, Okauru, Baker and Fornes will move on. But take a look at who we will still have:

Phillips Sr 6'2" 180lbs
Thomas So 6'0" 185lbs.
Morrissey So 6'4" 200lbs
Ross Fr 6'6" 190lbs.
Harvey Jr 6'5" 185lbs
Hodge Fr 6'6" 180lbs
White So 6'6" 185lbs
Samb Sr 6'7" 200lbs
McGriff So 6'8" 180lbs
Kelly Sr 6'9" 235lbs

Only four upperclassmen, but even if we don't win the regular season back to back, that's not a roster that's going to the bottom of the conference with size across the roster. I believe we have 13 scholarships available, which means we can still add three more players. We will also be recruiting to a team that won the regular season championship(maybe another NCAA tournament bid) with the current COY. Quite a different scenario for Siddle and staff when it comes to players deciding to come to UNCW.

I like where we are roster wise and coaching staff. If we an add another incoming freshman and two experienced transfers who can contribute we might be right back in it.

I'm sure there's some good guards available.

I have seen Ross and Hodge play and I like Ross a lot, he could be ready from day one . Hodge is pretty thin and raw as a player but he doe shave a nice jump shot -didn't see him try t drive the ball or handle it much .
Ross is a very good athlete with size who can shoot, handle, defend and I see him getting minutes or starting as a freshman .

That was my take on the two as well, and Ross fills our need for a bigger guard as Sims and Okauru move on. Hodge seems to be in the same category as Samb.

RE: 2022-2023 Men's Basketball
Count me as one who thinks we need more size. I realize Coach wants a certain type of length and athleticism, and he's not going to sacrifice it in order to just get players who are taller/bigger. But hopefully now that he can show recruits what actual team of his looks like (as opposed to selling a vision) he will get more looks from taller players who might otherwise look elsewhere. In this age of almost free-agency it is easy for me to conceive of such players who have not had the chance to show what they are capable of where they are coming the The Dub for their last year or two and make an immediate impact.

RE: 2022-2023 Men's Basketball
With the loss of the four outstanding seniors, don't you think it HAS to be somewhat of a rebuild next year? All four were key players and Sims and Okauru were unbelievable this year. We'll be losing a lot of minutes and points with those four--as well as defense, leadership, etc. Still, I love the guys that are returning and am excited to see Ross and Hodge as well as the guys currently on our roster who didn't play much. Picking up some high quality experienced players through the portal would make a big difference in how next year plays out.

It will be a rebuilding year to a certain extent, but for many schools that means a trip to the bottom of the conference. Based on who we have returning, I think we rebuild and are still in the top half of the conference.

In the era of the portal maybe every year will be a rebuilding year for most teams. You never know who you will lose, and who will be available to help you right away.

I mean, heck....we only had 4 guys back from last year (granted they are key guys) , so this year was a rebuilding year. We were regular season co-champs, played in the tournament title game, and are headed to post season play.

This might be the new normal.

Some Twitter chatter about “a former top 75 prospect“ transferring to UNCW. Just rumors right now, but I don’t think it’s far fetched.

Look's like a good fit for the Dub.

Big man from The Citadel Hayden Brown (
@haybrochill
) has entered the transfer portal.

Brown averaged 18.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists this year.

He's only 6'5. That's crazy rebounding for a guy that size. He'd be a grad transfer

It’s just a fan, a State fan that went UNCW, hearing Cam Hayes/UNCW rumors. Says there are multiple sources.

Not sure if they’re true, but it makes sense. A lot of people assuming Hayes will transfer, and Siddle recruited him to State.

The connection is definitely there. Just what we need another 6'3 G. Obviously, he could likely do well at our level. just not sure he helps with our current vacancies. That statement obviously changes if we lose a G on the roster,

RE: 2022-2023 Men's Basketball
"Cam Hayes is a true pass first point guard who has solid size at the position. Nothing that Hayes does is flashy, but he finds a way to be effective, and is old school in his approach. While he can put up gaudy numbers in a high school setting, Hayes is going to be a facilitator first and foremost in college, and use high basketball IQ and solid feel for the game to make others on his team better. His numbers will definitely not blow anybody away scoring wise, but he can make a shot if left open and has solid baseline-to-baseline speed. Hayes needs to continue to get more physical and focus on defense, but he can help right away running a team, and should be someone who is a reliable and steadying presence at the point guard position."

RE: 2022-2023 Men's Basketball
Random observation (sort of EvanJ-like, I must admit): There seems to be a lot of guys named “Cam” (or some variation of it) who have ended up successful guards lately. Cameron Payne (Murray St, Phoenix Suns); Cam Reddish (Duke, Hawks/Knicks); Cameron Johnson (Pitt/UNC, Suns); Cameron Reynolds (Tulane, multiple NBA teams); Camren Wynter.

Naturally, we should all hope Cam Hayes comes to UNCW. He’ll most certainly be NBA-bound.
