Should C-USA dump the CCG in exchange for more exposure the final weekend?
Until a few years ago, before the SBC created a CCG and the Big 12 was permitted to bring theirs back, some conferences played regular season games the same weekend that others played their CCGs. With the lion’s share of conferences only having 1 game worth of inventory, there was more opportunity to get on tv.

Instead of having a CCG that will be a rematch, would it make more sense for 8 of the 9 C-USA schools to play regular season games that weekend? (The 9th could potentially play an Indy school that weekend too)

isn't the rule you have to have at least 10 to have a CCG?

No. I don't think so. It used to be 12 and then was changed to just "don't have to have 12" if I'm not mistaken.

You have to either:

Play full round robin, then match 1 vs 2

Have 2 divisions that play full round robin, then match division winners

What more exposure? CBS contract includes the CCG, at least for 2023. CCG falls in early December and is an exception to the 12 game limit. It's an extra game. There is no longer a size restriction on conferences for a CCG, per the August, 2021 NCAA Division I ByLaws:

Quote:17.11.6.2.1 Bowl Subdivision. [FBS] In bowl subdivision football, the maximum number of football contests shall
exclude the following: (Revised: 1/10/90, 11/1/07 effective 8/1/08, 10/28/10, 10/27/11 effective 4/1/12, Adopted: 8/2/12
effective 8/1/14, 1/15/16 effective 8/1/16)

(a) Spring Game. ...

(b) Conference Championship Game. One conference championship game:
(1) Between division champions of a conference that is divided into two divisions (as equally balanced in number as possible) and conducts round-robin, regular-season competition in each division; or
(2) Between the top two teams in the conference standings following full round-robin regular-season competition among all members of the conference.

...

CUSA can continue to have a CCG with only 9 schools if they have an 8 game round robin play schedule.

CUSA can apply for a one year waiver with the exiting schools to either allow one game not be played in the 6 team Division (variant of option 1 in the spirit of "as balanced as possible") or like the American simply have the top two teams on an 8 game schedule for 11 schools play in the Championship game (variant of option 2).

If a network is paying the league, the network wants a CCG. A CCG is the network’s best shot at decent ratings when it comes to a lower G5.

If C-USA decided on no CCG, they would be receiving less money from the network, as the CCG would be the most valuable game of the tv contract.

Yeah.

I don't think it's necessary when you're playing round robin and from a competitive standpoint it's kind of stupid.

But I think tv will want it and the sos gain by playing your top two schools is also something you probably don't want to give up. It's unlikely to cost us the G5 NY6 spot (in the next year or two) but it'd potentially be good for your champ's ranking if nothing else.

If you want to play 4 conference games the first weekend of December the better option would be to stage your CCG in mid-November (after completing divisional round-robin) than to drop it entirely. Not sure either is better than a traditional season ending championship game.

It'd be interesting to have a "best of three" . Example:

8-0 App
7-1 ULL

If app wins the "CCG" they are champs
If UL wins, they play one more for all the marbles the following week. Id love it!
