I'm flummoxed at how USA lost and also how KenPom and Vegas had them as the second favorites after Texas State. I never saw what others saw in them.

We definitely had the talent, but something was missing and we kind of whimpered at the end. Our leading scorer was out after breaking a finger in the regular season finale, so that’s part of it. And Little Rock freshman Jordan Jefferson played an insane game. He alone had twice the number of 3-pointers than our entire team. And we kept inexplicably leaving him completely open.
This happens every March, lower seeded teams find a way to knock odd better seeds. Often a really low seed (like Little Rock) will play an insane game and then get blown out in their second game. It wouldn’t surprise me if that happened against Troy because I’ve seen it many times before.

For years the SBC had its tournament final on the Tuesday before selection Sunday. When Karl Benson was Commissioner, he had it moved to Selection Sunday. Commissioner Gill had it moved back.
I am a proponent of having it earlier for several reasons, the biggest being the days of free pub you get. There aren't many tickets punched at that time and national programs talk about those tournaments and those teams.
NOBODY talks about conference tournaments outside of the big six once those tournaments start.
And, with baseball so big in a lot of SBC schools, it's one less week of overlap.

South wasn't very deep, but their starting five was the most talented in the league. Tough break (literally) about Chandler, but no excuses. You can't build a program by bringing in a new team every year.

RE: SBC Men’s BBall Tourney
I enjoyed watching three of the games yesterday. (My first Sun Belt BB experience.) Very entertaining, with tight games decided in the last few moments. Sorry I missed the Arkansas State-ULM game, which seems to have had the best finish. These 8 seemed pretty balanced in terms of competition. It will be interesting to see how they stack up with the top seeds.

I still feel that way. The SBC bleeds money doing the tournament. Attendance is horrible and half the time you don't send your best team.
It would be a bad move, PR wise. But lots of leagues make money on conference tournaments. The Sun Belt isn't one of them.

I'm concerned about the App State geriatrics and a start time of 8:30. They might go to bed at halftime.

It would suck to not have a conference tournament. Would the regular season champ get the NCAA bid? Also, with the new energy the SBC has picked up maybe attendance will start to spike some with the new teams coming in? IDK, just trying to remain positive when it comes to SBC basketball.

Even though we didnt get to see how it played out I wish we did it like 2 years ago where only the semis and finals are in New Orleans, or Pensacola in this case.
Not sure how it was for the other schools but was so awesome to get to host the quarterfinals in San Marcos. Literal playoff basketball on campus made for an electric atmosphere. We had over 6k for that quarterfinal game vs App.

You have to get a coach that can build a roster not implode it and start over every year.

I think JMU and ODU will bring an ok amount, and will bring a good amount when our teams are good... Might take a couple good years for JMU to really ramp up though and get people believing.
I think it's really neat the way the Sun Belt does the men's and women's, a little more incentive to go since you'll get to see both. That'll help some with JMU fans, there are definitely plenty who gave up on men's a long time ago unfortunately and primarily care about the women. Gotta think we'll have a decent amount that go for the men's but attend the women's too and vice versa.
