...any talk of the SBC3 going Independent Schedule for 2022?
...asking for a friend... 03-drunk

...the ramifications of going independent for a 'transitional' season may or may not even factor in to the matter at hand, however, as C-USA is fighting to keep them IN the conference, and doesn't care WHERE they go once they leave (I guess)...

The only thing it WOULD do is generally 'insulate' the Sun Belt from direct involvement in the current standoff. ...just throwing it out for discussion, I reckon... COGS

. . . actually, not a bad idea . . . would take a few bullets out of Judy’s chambers.

By independent do you mean "independent" where they just happen to build a schedule of 8 Sun Belt teams plus 4 other teams?

I suspect that is EXACTLY what is going to be announced on March 1.

Heck, we can actually wait until Sept. 2 to announce the games count in league standings.

...I would think you go 'hybrid' and do 4 SBC games and 4 CUSA games (but all games are 'independent' for the 3 in transition, while the 'conference teams' they play can count them as one of their respective conference games)... assuming each team has 4 OOC games in place... this would perhaps 'appease' CUSA by giving them those games, while 'transitioning' to the SBC...

...of course the big issue is MONEY... the 'one-year indys' could GIVE the CUSA games for free-ish, as part of the 'settlement' or whatever, and the SBC game gates can be negotiated however they need to be for a 'happy medium'...

The only other issue is the media deal, but I guess it can be negotiated as well for a 'transitional' season to where everyone gets a slice of SOMEthing...

Problem is this is not just a football issue, this is an all sports issue.

One thing to be indy in football for a season with access to a conferences bowl tie ins, another thing to be indy in all sports with no post season tourney or auto bids to playoffs.

GreenFreak brings up an interesting scenario yet USA also counters with a solid point

yep that's a big thing of course... not sure how you would solve that, unless CUSA would be ok with letting them go completely into the SBC in everything EXCEPT football - maybe some separate 'agreement' with roundball, like some extra games...

I don't think so. At this point we'd rather drop football than give CUSA anything. F--k em. And they wouldn't accept it as payment for playing you, anyways. You're gone too, they just haven't buried the corpse. If we go independent for a year, it will be our OOC schedule plus Sunbelt teams. We'll save all the ball sweat from the season to present to CUSA on the way out.

How would that help anything? CUSA doesn't want to let them leave, they'd still be leaving.

It would keep CUSA from being able to add the SBC to any lawsuit.

The next shoe will drop. Just give it time. We are moving forward according to plan.

Seems that would keep the SB3 out of bowl tie-ins and NCAA bid contention. Otherwise, not a bad idea. Im pretty sure we'll be in the SB one way or another for this season.

If we can get out of CUSA, there’s nothing to stop us from joining the SBC. If we can’t get out, we’re simply stuck in CUSA. There’s no point in a 3rd option.

I’m at a point I would risk not getting in a bowl with a good season if I can get away from CUSA on July 1, 2022. (But I still say we counter sue for incompetence over the last 17 years.)
