Chenault looks like he will be a mid week guy for now but going forward I would say only Gaither has performed up to expectations for the starters. Bull pen has been ok not great .

Thanks for the input Jumpin. He probably gives a good shot at the higher profile games from what I’ve seen but could be wrong. Banks does have good stuff as does Sales but it is early.

Sales could move mid week as well-one pitch pitcher in D1 is a tough way to make a living .

At this point, I’m more concerned with the bats. I think they’ll come around though.

I'm also a little concerned with our offense and you would have to think that Coastal will have quality on the mound. We definitely need a quality win right about now.

Didn't hit last year and I don't see a lot of improvement since it is basically the same lineup . This team should play small ball, defend and pitch with the lack of overall size and power in the lineup just makes sense . Too many auto outs with guys swinging for the fence is an absolute killer for a smaller team -ton of strikeouts up to now and I think that just can't happen with these guys .

Hawks have some big guys so I would not classify them as small. Still, I see where your going and haven’t seen guys consistently going the other way when warranted. We definitely need to put the freaking ball in play way more.

They play two big guys and the rest are average size players and Mongero is tiny. Hawks have some huge pitchers but they don't hit . Pitching, defense and timely hitting is the recipe for this team I would think . They walked, got hit by pitches, reached on error and scored some runs last night simply by putting the ball in play after being rewarded by a sloppy Coastal effort .

Yes, it turned out to be a sloppy game on both sides. Funny though how you failed to mention the 14 hits.

RE: Uncw baseball 2022
Coastal was ranked #29. We outhit them 14-7. We were the team that struck out a lot. We struck out 4 times to their 10. Our pitching struggled the same as theirs. We found a way to win, they didn't. I feel this team will get better. We have a lot of new pitching that I believe will come around as they get more settled. Hitting just needs to be more consistent.

Technically you’re right but guys like Suggs and Baldwin can hit the ball into orbit so I was considering them too. Heck, Noah has plus power when he gets a hold of one.
I too like seeing more line drives and getting it on the ground more last night. Good things happen when that occurs . It was good to see Marsh and Thorburn do good things last night. They seem to put it in play.

They have some power but are not really HR hitters like Ron Evans if he hits the ball has enormous power and is huge . They had 14 hits vs Coastal by just putting the ball into play and not trying to muscle up on every swing . Noah Bridges should not be trying to pull the ball and hit dingers but just use the gaps and let the HR happen when he barrels something up-he is not a HR hitter either . Liffteri,Evans and Baucom have legit HR power but Buacom and Evans also have huge ,loopy swings that result in a ton of Ks-need to cut down on that . Hawks are off to a solid start and are on the road at App St this weekend.
