CUSA Baseball Tournament
Has CUSA has cornered itself with respect to the baseball tournament in Hattiesburg? Let’s say they decide to relocate the postseason tournament that involves rearranging the logistics of 8 baseball teams traveling to, playing and staying at one location about 90 days before it is scheduled to begin and after the baseball regular season is underway. It would demonstrate quick scheduling nimbleness on CUSA’s part.

But that same CUSA has supposedly been unable to find a way to schedule 8 games among 11 remaining teams after having been notified about nine months before the conference football season begins?

I don’t think it’s likely to move at this point.

If it did, it would have to quickly bid, plan, and notify all teams so they could arrange travel and lodging. Realistically a minor league park in the DFW area or Rice’s Reckling Park would be the only areas that I could see them doing that. But, even still they’d need a Park Owner/GM to agree to scramble and plan a tournament up to the “CUSA specs” in less than 3 months.

The Big South did it to Coastal at a drop of the hat in 2016, ended up moving it to a field in Lexington, SC.

There are plenty of options of fields they could have the tournament. They won’t move it because it would give USM an easy excuse and reason for leaving CUSA early. CUSA can’t break a contract and then ***** because you broke a contract with them. Judy has backed herself into a corner, so the tourney stays in Hattiesburg.

I definitely like your thinking/thought process there.

Other things that go along with previous posts is it's not up to the individual schools to arrange hotels. That is something the host team is usually responsible for when they secure the bid/host. The host school traditionally lines up hotels for 8 teams as well as the CUSA staff members plus umpires and then from there seed 1 gets first choice of hotel, seed 2 is 2nd choice and so on. If CUSA does move it i feel like it will be another CUSA school as if they move it to a neutral location attendance/profits would take a big hit. With USM scheduled to host it even CUSA stands to profit off of it as USM will be the highest drawing team attendance wise. Assuming CUSA still does their usual tournament finances the host school use to get their bid money back first then everything after that is split 50/50 between CUSA and the host school. USM will charge around $125 minimum per tournament booklet for GA seats and even more for chairbacks, suites and the Right Field Roost area......and will presale probably 2000 tickets (so $250K), then there will be walk-up ticket sales for each game which will be another $25k minimum. Those numbers are probably low but CUSA still stands to gain around $100k profit minimum. Should they move it somewhere else besides (La Tech or Rice) they would make less than $50k and the host could possibly lose money.

Exactly my point. If they move it, it shows they can adjust quickly and on the fly, and that could be done with football scheduling as well. Though moving the tournament may be part of the final settlement.

I'm thinking the tourney will stay in Hattiesburg for as long as this saga drags on. I suspect that part of C-USA's settlement with USM will be the removal of the tournament.

It won't be difficult to get another C-USA school to step up and take over last minute. It's not like the field won't be available.

Its funny now with Coastal winning the whole thing anyway and winning a Natty while they were at it.
