Another home town verbal from CCHS 6'0 ATH Braden Awls
Interesting set of offers, most all of the MAC, all three service academies, half the Ivy league, some 1AA schools, and Marshall and Rice.

Awls had 2 pick 6's versus St. John's in their playoff meeting last year. Special talent.

Nicholas Thompson, CB, Bishop Luers, Fort Wayne.
Toledo was his 1st offer, and he added offers from most of the MAC, Army, Navy, Illinois State, and Grand Valley State for some reason. He recently tweeted that he had narrowed his choices to Toledo and Miami. So, at least UT can win a recruiting battle with Miami, even if they don't play them on the field.

Nice size for a CB.

RE: 2023 Football Recruiting Thread
Interesting class so far. The count is 10. I wonder how many Fr recruits we take this year besides Portal dudes. Already 3 OL and 3 WR’s. It would seem we need at least 2 QB signees since Avery Smith from last year has already been switched to CB on ‘22 roster. We’re deep at TE but since kids are restless these days we’ll probably take at least one.

Let’s say we keep what we have (10) and sign 1-2 QB’s + 2 LB, + 3-4 DL , 1 TE and 2 more DB we are at about 19 to 22 FR. My math seems a bit high in portal era. Perhaps it’s at 19 to 22 mix of FR and Portal. But with limits rescinded we could easily sign 30 players if we need to backfill. Compared to other schools we have a reasonably stable roster.

The ‘23 recruiting class may be become the most interesting group ever to sign based on the era and lifted limits. I’m going to do a roster count for scholarship players and see we’re we stand going into ‘22. I think limit is still 85. Is this still true?

It appears we are at exactly 85 scholarship players. 77 on current roster plus 8 more FR recruits yet to report for summer enrollment. Interesting that it’s and exact 85 count. It means AJ Gucciardo has yet to receive a scholarship. I think we are thin at two critical positions going into ‘22: WR (previously discussed in other posts) and QB with switch of Smith to CB. I see the strong possibility of a QB transfer for ‘23.

Go Rockets!

I don't think an NCAA decision has been made yet on eliminating scholarship limits.

That’s the yearly scholarship correct? Not total

Hi…. Are you referring to 85 or 30??? 85 is the roster limit and in years past it was 30 per year for recruits but that’s been rescinded by NCAA to help stabilize rosters that have been destabilized by their own portal court room weakness.

The annual limit used to be 25, but that has been suspended for 2 years for FBS and not completely repealed yet. It could come back after the 2 years are up, but probably not.

But in addition, as part of the on-going work of the DI Transformation Committee, reports have been that one of the possible proposals is to eliminate the scholarship limits entirely. My guess is that is in response to BYU's football NIL collective announcing that they were going to pay for the scholarships of all 36 FB walk-ons, which essentially means that the boosters are buying extra scholarship players, and removing the scholarship cap sorta makes that moot, but not really, since then the school would have to come up with the money and not the boosters. Haven't heard much about whether that proposal will go anywhere or not.

Just think what Urban Meyer would do for Toledo recruiting - top 25 in country?

Look at the Gator player arrests and team culture during Meyer's tenure, 2005-2010.

While Meyer was at BG he never finished higher than 3rd in the MAC East.
