Also, I believe the schedule is already decided for a possible 14-team lineup.

1. Georgia Southern will play at Southern Miss next year
2. ODU will play at JMU next year, potentially Saturday after Thanksgiving.
3. SBC will do everything it can to avoid messing up the home site rotation for major rivalry games.
4. App will play at Marshall. Week may change assuming its picked for TV.
Some USM account on Twitter figured out a schedule that no one plays at the same team 2 years in a row. Wouldn't be surprised if the matchups and locations are very similar.

What does the games in gold mean in the spreadsheet?
He explained that those are potentially games that ESPN could spotlight.
That was my original guess but figured the VT at ODU game would have been highlighted.
For SBC Purposes, while any SBC home game falls under our TV contract, any mock scheduler likely is going to ingore which OOC games get televised. The VT/ODU game is set for a specific week already. The SBC Schedule has to operate around that week to ensure ODU doesn't lose their home game. ESPN usually sets aside what weeks it wants to broadcast SBC games, so games with TV potential often are auto set for a TV coverage week to ensure they get that coverage.

Didn't even pay attention close enough to see if other teams ooc games were highlighted but that makes sense.

OOC Games do count towards the preset minimums and maximums in the TV contract, for instance if they moved it to Thursday, it would count towards one of the games ESPN is allowed to move to midweek, but in practice few think about the App/Marshall game being under the SBC Contract last year other than the fact it was on ESPN.
ESPN could have counted it towards are contracted # of games they are required to televise if they wanted, but they didn't.

GS-Appy should stay at the end of the season for Rivalry Week. They are our main rival, not Ga St. If it stays in the middle of the season as the spreadsheet shows, it's a pretty good assumption that it will be on TV. All of our previous games that were mid season were mid-week TV games. Don't let 3-9 fool ya, unless something weird happens we'll be on TV at least once this year.

I can't wait for the rivalry to start between Georgia Southern and Southern Mississippi. Both eagles, both southern, and both down on luck with a big history of winning. It should start off big this year, since we're going to rebound quite a bit under the new staff, and it looks like USM will too.

I don't know if this is the right post for this, but if Marshall and App can't find replacement games, could we still play each other OOC and play a 3rd cross divisional game this season?
I don't know if that's legal or a possibility, but that would open up a lot of potential

Yeah I don't know how they'll handle that but I doubt a 3rd cross-divisional game is possible because 2 SBCW teams would need to sacrifice 1 inter-divisional game to make it work + it would then make rotations weird unless they started fresh on rotations in 2023 and next year is just a make it work schedule.

My theory is we will play each other twice. Pretty sure we will only get 8 conference games no matter what so we will still play the non-conference game. I personally think it should then be a requirement for Marshall to pay App a sum of money for entering early due to the fact that they would no longer be playing a non-conference game in Boone in 2029 as scheduled but if they agree to still play that game in Boone and therefore play twice again, no money is owed. That way, it’s at least fair. Otherwise both teams will either have to play 2 FCS games or schedule a new FBS game on very short notice and to my knowledge FIU and Baylor are the only ones with openings and I don’t think Baylor will agree to travel to Boone or Huntington this year therefore either Marshall would have to play 3 road games or App would have to play 3 P5 teams this year which I don’t think either club agrees to. Therefore the only options are play a second FCS or App vs. Marshall twice twice year (once as a conference game and the other as a non-conference game). Two FCS games doesn’t make a lot of sense if you ask me from a fan engagement stand point but it would save Marshall from paying App for the return non-conference game in 2029 that they wouldn’t be making. If I were App I would prefer to play twice this year with the conference game being in Boone and the non-conference game in Huntington as scheduled while also taking a check for the 2029 game. Marshall folks, thoughts?
