Southern Miss, Marshall and ODU are all cutting ties with CUSA effective this summer.

Wonder if that affects any movement to the AAC earlier than expected

03-idea Since there seems to be no penalty for leaving C-USA early, I volunteer UNT to move to the AAC in time for the 2022 season, and the other 5 can move up in '23.

I wonder if the UConn/AAC exit sets precedence for this CUSA exit. AAC doesn’t have a stated penalty either. They settled on the 17M exit for early exit.

“We all understood that there was a minimum exit fee that we were aware of in our bylaws," UConn athletic director David Benedict said. "And the additional money over and above that, when you look at the grand scheme of things, we’ll be able to recover that money in short order based on the cost savings in travel as well as the increased sales we’re going to have, and all of the indirect benefit we’re going to receive.”

That reads like a parting swipe at the AAC.

The new CUSA seems like it's barely an FBS conference

Nope the AAC situation is different from CUSA. Under your thinking OU and Texas could say the same thing about leaving Big12.

CUSA has schools coming in. I think the big question is what happens of those three leave for 2022-23 season and the new members can’t join in.

Still CUSA would have 11 members for 2022-23 if those three do leave since the 6 AAC additions are not scheduled to come in until 2023.

Please let this expedite the realignment.

UCF, Houston, and Cincy will gladly leave earlier if the AAC wants to release us early and wave the exit fees.

If CUSA falls apart, the AAC has to help its future members.

Is it better for the AAC to collect the exit fees or have the future members suffer with a collapsed conference?

Why would you wave exit fees and throw money down the drain. The TV contract will probably suffer with Houston, Cinn, and UCF leaving. If it doesn't at the very least it will have to be distributed over more conference members resulting in a lower payout per conference member. 04-jawdrop 02-13-banana 02-13-banana 03-shhhh COGS COGS 07-coffee3

No exit fees will be waived and the tv contract numbers have already been reported, the remaining members will not lose value and still get 7 mill a year, the new members will get a lower amount

Conference USA dying ?
This may not be AAC but everything is connected.

This thread cracks me up. It's all up to the freaking SEC. PERIOD !!! If they decide to pay Texas and Oklahoma 's exit fees or help offset the costs ... BOOM ! Otherwise this thread is all null and void. Sheesh !! Now you could elaborate on what would have happened if Texas and Oklahoma had stayed put, but WHY !! 07-coffee3

You mean Owls in Houston, Philly, and Boca Raton.

Man, that's a lot of losses in hindsight. Two AAC schools, one ACC school, one A10 school, one Big East school, and two XII schools. That's a decimation.
