Spring 2022 incidents
The second suicide of the Spring 2022 semester has just occurred, wrapped around the horrific incident at nearby Bridgewater and shooting down at VaTech. One was at the Arboretum and the other at the Grace Street Parking Garage. Absolutely horrible, remind your loved ones that they are loved, whatever inner turmoil they are fighting is just temporary and there’s resources available to battle through.

Make it worse you have an idiot Sam Houston fan trolling one of our football players responding to another JMU student, and making light of a suicide and one of players that recently had legal issues. WTF is wrong with some people?!?

Probably the same dudes who were sprinting over to the JMU fans in Huntsville screaming about “SOFT HOUSTON HUH?” just as soon as the collapse was complete in spring 2021. That beatdown in Harrisonburg really embarrassed some of their fans. These are losers who don’t deserve to be acknowledged.

On the topic though, it’s incredibly sad. Just try to remind people around you that they’re loved. All most of us can do.

Yeah, I understand ball busting and fan bases having words in the heat of a game. But it baffles me that in minutes after a college student committing suicide somebody thinks it is a good time to find humor in it and troll a student-athlete because of what happened in a sporting event last season.

Alger's letter indicates the person who jumped was not a student or employee.

Yes, I noticed that too. From what I understand there were quite a few witnesses. Coupled with the suicide last week at the Arboretum, the assault on an RA, the events at Bridgewater and VaTech, these kids are barely a few weeks into this semester and are dealing with a ton. I know when I was in school it was the first time I had to deal with certain tragedies, and we didn't have anywhere near the focus on mental health as we do today. There are resources out there, hopefully the kids that need help get it.

No surprise my first guess was right on who it is. He's some high school kid with zero concept for what crosses the line or that a line even exists. Don't love other people getting insulting towards football players either, obviously disagreement on how much sports should be emphasized is understandable but you can debate that without insulting student athletes.

Depression/mental illness is for real. There seems to be an uptick in suicide the last couple of years. Such a shame.

RE: Spring 2022 incidents
February is the hardest month for mental health. Take care of yourselves folks. Spring will be here soon. Life can get tough, but there is ALWAYS something to look forward to.
