That was fun!

The view on ESPN of that blue and gold ETSU atmosphere in Freedom Hall was really good also. With a 12-13 record going in, over 4,300 in attendance speaks well. GO BUCS.

To re-state what we already know......................."attendance" is tickets sold, so "attendance" is already ~1500-2000(?) (or whatever it is) just from season tickets bought.

Sometimes the “sold” is listed as the number there maybe that was what they were listing.

I don't recall ever seeing that assignation. Not saying it's never been there; just don't ever recall seeing it.

I guess if the media and school report 4300 in attendance, it's very important we believe them. Never trust reality with your own eyes. After all, aren't both the most trusted source for misinformation these days?

According to folks on other SoCon forums, this appears to be a conference standard. They report sold tickets also.

They should never say ''in attendance,'' but instead, use the phrase ''tickets sold.''

RE: Official Game Thread: Furman
^^^^ Yes. And yes. ^^^^

What would *really* be interesting is if 'we' (or at least the conference) could get viewership data from the various broadcasters, esp. ESPN, and then see what actual "viewership" is. Meaning live, in-person, PLUS online. We strongly suspect that total eyes watching games is greater than what it used to be when ESPN3 and ESPN+ weren't around, but the fans don't know that. It's quite possible that ESPN shares some of that data with conferences, as it would seem 'natural' for the conferences to know what kind of audiences they're getting. And heck...........there may be data "out there" about that, but I kinda doubt it, as that would probably be proprietary info.

Heck — if the Athletic Department sold over 4,300 tickets to this game being played by a team with a loosing record - not bad and they still collected the revenue. Do know how the “attendance” game is played across college athletics. The most glaring example - and an absolutely absurd joke - is all those bowl games being played in empty stadiums with the attendance being reported that has no relationship to rear ends in seats. I know - dead horse. But, I believe it has been reported on here several times that the ETSU Athletic Department DOES NOT purchase its own tickets to inflate the numbers. Again, and from a most biased perspective, Freedom Hall still looked good on ESPN even with some empty seats showing.

Historically............which has been discussed numerous times over the years...........ETSU or UTC has led in this count. When we played in the dome, it was almost always ETSU, often by a wide margin when we had good/great teams. And the numbers for both ETSU and UTC used to be much, much bigger. Appy had a few decent years back when they were good, and of course Marshall had great fan support.
