Dillon Gabriel
Now that Rattler, Dart and Williams have all committed elsewhere it seems UCF transfer Dillon Gabriel is in line to be the starting quarterback of the Oklahoma Sooners in 2022.

Would any UCF fans be willing to inform the current Big 12 members fanbases scheduled to play against him in 2022 what to expect?

Thank you in advance.

RE: Dillon Gabriel
Throws a beautiful deep ball, and has loads of talent but didn’t ever really win any big games at UCF.

RE: Dillon Gabriel
Agreed. Great arm talent, great touch. Not a great or natural runner, which I think is why he left UCF. Gus likes to run. For Pure passing ability/talent, he was probably the best QB I have seen at UCF. Daunte Culpepper was before my time, but I did see Schneider, Hodges, Calabrese, that fast white dude, Godfrey, Bortles, KZ, Keene, Mack, and probably a few others. DG stepped in for Wimbush and His talent was immediately obvious. If the pocket holds up, he is trouble for the opponent.

Vertical routes were routinely perfect.
Arm strength was good but not overwhelming from what I could see, cross field throws were possible.
Not a natural scrambler.
Quick screens with touch were good.
Quick read and release on slants.

He's basically a Juggs gun. Makes all the throws. He folds in tight games though.

As an opposing fan I think he has all the talent in the world but needs to learn to win games and especially the bigger ones.

Can’t deal with zone coverage heavy schemes.

RE: Dillon Gabriel
Great arm with to big of an ego to fill in the rest of his game and lead the team. Maybe that changes but it'd be a very drastic change very quickly. He jumps into his read so he rarely checks off his first option. He's not a runner and doesn't have great pocket awareness. His road record is appalling which reflects on his leadership ability, rarely was able to rally the team to come back and win from behind. All that said I do think DG wasn't able to get out of Milton's shadow at UCF. Probably played a part in him running KZ off the team.

RE: Dillon Gabriel
2019 was his best season. Jeff Lebby was his OC so that's a good reunion for him.

He was also throwing to WR Gabriel Davis a majority of the time. He just set the NFL record for most receiving TDs in a playoff game. So it's a little hard to tell if 2019 was just an amazing WR making a QB look good.

2020 he struggled in big games a lot more.

He has boom or bust potential. The Ceiling is a Heisman Candidate. The Floor is an average QB that throws it up and hopes for the best.

The play that he got injured on was him being erratic. It was a dumb way to get injured, trying to do too much.

He is a good not great QB. As said above good arm, not so good legs. He will win you some games and he will lose you 1 o 2.

Just don't let him have time, his throwing is best on long throws that develop. I agree about zone coverage heavy schemes. Throw off his timing and he is not hard to beat.
With a great OL he is tough though.

Interested to see how this guy does at Zero U.

He throws a beautiful ball... but there are times that he seems to freeze.

RE: Dillon Gabriel
He excelled in Josh Huepel's system at UCF. But once teams figured him out & were able to get pressure in his face, he became just an average QB.
