Really makes me wonder how bad that transfer QB from Lafayette could have been if he didn't even get a look in any of those first three games. Could have been an opportunity lost for the Tribe and definitely can't blame him if he decided not to spin his wheels any more after the first two games where he couldn't even get on the field.

I cannot believe these non-Power 5 schools can pay us anywhere near what a Power 5 does, so I wonder if we are finding it harder to get those Power 5 games with the exception of UVA every few years? If we're playing Charlotte and Coastal, games against ODU and JMU can't be too far off. They'd be a lot more fun and beneficial to both sides in terms of attendance.

According to the article that broke this news, Coastal Carolina is paying W&M $325,000 for the game. Not sure but that sounds pretty close to the ACC payouts, UVA, NC State, etc?

That is more than I would have guessed. I don't think ODU has paid NSU or Hampton anywhere near that amount.

CCU has been very successful as an FBS commanding big bucks for Power 5 games and annually making bowl money. Their combined record over the last two years is 22-3. They defeated BYU at home in 2020 when BYU was ranked #8 and CCU #15.

Yes they been successful on the field but I am not so sure that means they have been very successful money wise. If they are breaking even, that is successful at the FBS level. You have to go out of your way not to make a bowl these days and most schools lose money or break even on bowls so I doubt bowl attendance has made Coastal flush with cash. But it will be a nice game for us and the amount of cash is surprising

I don't know this, but my assumption is that the kid from Lafayette was brought in as a hedge if Mathis wasn't healthy and Wilson wasn't ready to play. Once Wilson did well in the first game (at least I thought he did well for a true freshman in his first game), the writing was on the wall. The kid from Arizona didn't even make it out of training camp, my guess for similar wall writing. But enough of this.......the thread is about the football schedule.

Any idea when we will see this year's football schedule? Wonder if we will see more teams added prior to release. I'm assuming if we add football schools that they will compete this fall. And to do that it will have to happen pretty quickly.

Our first 3 games:
@ Charlotte
Campbell
@ Lafayette

The rest will be the CAA schedule.

Yep. I know that part. The CAA schedule is the tentative portion. Either we get it soon or it will be a good long while.

Oh I didn't realize our only FBS game next year was Charlotte. That's too bad.

May be because we aren’t even sure who will play CAAF this year. May gain additional schools

RE: Future Football Schedules
Big news today.

VMI is back on the Tribes future schedules! First game will be our home opener in 2024, 8/31. This will be the 4th OOC game that year with Coastal Carolina, Wofford and Furman to follow.

The other games are in 2027, 2030 (home) and 2031.

I know some folks don't like us playing VMI, but I'm a huge supporter. They have good alumni support, and a long history with us. Plus its an easy drive.

So, clearly 2024 is 12 games with 6 at home. I like that. Obviously for some of us, a road game in Lexington(in 5 years) is a reasonable trip as well. VMI has played well the last 2 football seasons. They also are solid in mens basketball this year.

Does that mean we could win the CAA AND the Southern Conference in 2024.....

… and be undefeated in the Sun Belt as well!

All of us will be happy!

If we can’t / won’t join the SoCon / Sun Belt, at least play them in the non-conf part of the schedule.

Well done!

RE: Future Football Schedules
Home opener against Campbell on Sept.11th will be interesting. They were a lackluster 3-8 this past season, but signed the top ranked FCS recruiting class in the country, with 5 of the top 42 recruits on HERO Sports list. Campbell’s incoming 2022 class includes 18 incoming freshmen, with 11 rated as three or four star recruits, as well as one two star prospect. The group includes a 4 star safety ranked as the #3 recruit behind Deon Sanders two high profile pickups at Jackson St, as well as, the top ranked FCS QB recruit.

Then it is good that we are playing them early in the season before they have had a chance to gell.

For some of us, games vs VA schools west/southwest of Williamsburg are closer than going to home games. Not everyone lives in either Tidewater or Occupied Northern VA.
