In general, the book on OU is to not help on Hooks, because their shooters are too good and they will hit the open three like 50+% of the time.

It’s so weird watching 8 people standing at the 3 point line with 2 playing one on one essentially.

I disagree with taking Q out at the end. Let her play with 4 fouls. Just change her defensive assignment.

Uggh, what a mess.

I’m no expert but the defensive strategy sucks. What good does guarding the 3 do when you give up an easy layup every trip down?

They had the game in hand until Q got her third foul with 6 minutes left. Cullop takes her out. Instead why not change her defensive assignment to one of the players who doesn't score much (Bambule or Mace were unlikely offensive options for OU late) and leave her in. Instead she waits until UT loses it's lead and then puts her back in guarding Johnson. Why Johnson who is a potent offensive option? Immediately OU has Johnson match up one on one against Q and gets her fourth foul. Takes her out again. Why? At this point UT is in panic mode and needs its leader on the floor. Can't win with her on the bench. Burriss played almost the entire 4th quarter with 4 fouls. Q is a junior with loads of game experience. Coach needed to trust that Q could navigate the late game conditions. Those coaching decisions went a long way to the end of game collapse.

So ends the charmed streak. Record setting rebounding night from Sammi wasted in a loss.

four rockets scored in double figures tonight. And that's it. Goss had zero points but played excellent defense on Hooks. The bench players who had a few minutes did not contribute meaningful in any way and its a concern that that trend had been more evident in recent games. A deep bench was promoted as a competitive asset during the nonconference season. It would appear now that we are like OU and Buffalo, with a good starting group but can be had if they can get to the bench. Noveroske was ineffective (again), Curry had a brief appearance and lost her defensive assignment, Jansen missed back to back critical 3s and seems to be having trouble advancing the ball which she also did a couple of times in the Buffalo game, and Barnes has had no effect since she returned to the team. Announcers said that Garcia was back and available if needed. Saw her dressed and on the bench but I guess she didn't play because Cook was doing so well. Someone on the bench other than a post player needs to step up or we have a problem going forward.

Talk about a colossal collapse there at the end, and on our own home court to make it worse.
