Bowling Green is 10-and-a-half hours by car from Amherst, Mass., and this is "reasonably close," but the 13-and-three-quarters of drive time to Fargo, N.D., is not. I see.

But, but.... That 13 hour drive is booorrring!

RE: NEW MAC
It's actually 14 hours drive time from Bowling Green, Ohio to Fargo, N.D., but hey, no big deal!

While it's a 10 1/2 hour drive from Bowling Green, Ohio to Amherst, Mass., it's only 10 hours and 20 minutes to Springfield, Mo.

RE: NEW MAC
Thanks for mentioning UMass every now and again. While it pisses me off that UMass feels it needs to exhaust all football only options before circling back to the MAC all sports.
Until that happens we will work to get better and like the new coaching staff and the recruits. Who knows, this coming season maybe the first time UMass ever reaches the 85 scholarship players and starts winning again. The Tulane game on the road will be interesting and hopefully will have a new vehicle* to drive to Toledo on Sept 10th.

* It's dicey with he chip shortage if my hybrid Maverick will be MY22 or MY23.

Steve, I'm very impressed with the recruiting class Don Brown just signed. IMHO, he has the UMass program on the right track and the Minutemen should be competitive very soon.

I don't think it matters how competitive UMASS becomes. The reason they are not in the MAC right now is because they did not keep the agreement to bring basketball.

UMass never agreed to bring basketball.

Well the reason they are not in the MAC today is because they wanted to be football only and that was not acceptable to the MAC. The CUSA needs new schools. So maybe they will take them in.

Doubtful. Not unless they change the bylaws. CUSA doesn't allow FB only.

Nobody in the MAC wants NDSU or SDSU in the conference for all sports, or even football. No one.

The longest drive in the conference is currently around 9 hours. Why would you want to double that for fans attending football/basketball games. Or for track/swimming/baseball/softball teams that would have to drive there.

It's not going to happen.

It will be a pair of teams that are reasonably close to the current footprint (and each other) or nothing.

RE: NEW MAC
ISU basketball is not in great shape at all. Bad since 2017, poor attendance and they can’t afford to fire their coach. They were decent with a couple NIT teams in the early part of the decade but it’s in need of a major rebuild and good hire.

Might need to take NDSU and SDSU together for travel partners if going that route. Say Kent and Akron fly into Minneapolis together, drive to Fargo/Brookings for a Friday volleyball game, switch it up on Sunday, drive back to Minn. Of course NDSU football is the prize but SDSU isn’t anything to sneeze at either. Would strengthen MAC football substantially. And they both have decent basketball.

The new MAC with the possible additions of WKU/MTSU/UMASS/ISU/ or NDSU cannot come soon enough,
- ending speculation ...

New MAC lineup:

North Dakota St
South Dakota St
Illinois St
Missouri St
Western Kentucky
Middle Tennessee
Liberty
Massachusetts

Put all the candidates that get talked about on here in one conference and ignore the existing 12 MAC schools. Call it the New MAC.
