Mass Retail Theft Leads Rite Aid to Close Stores

Quote:Michael Rapaport, 51, returned to his local Rite Aid on the Upper East Side on Sunday to showcase how barren the shelves were

In a video posted to his Instagram he said 'there's nothing to steal because... everybody stole everything'

His video came less than one week after he captured a brazen thief walking out of the pharmacy with two shopping bags of stolen goods

The Rite Aid store on the Upper East Side is scheduled to close on February 15 due in part to a recent rash of thefts

Rapaport has blamed New York's lenient bail reform for the brazen thefts

Actor Michael Rapaport returned to his neighborhood Rite Aid on Sunday only to find shelves empty just days after he saw a brazen thief calmly walk out of the store with two shopping bags full of stolen goods.

'Back in my Rite Aid,' he said in a video posted to his Instagram on Sunday. 'And there's nothing to steal because this Rite Aid like so many other Rite Aids is closing down because everybody stole everything. And the workers here don't know if they're getting jobs.

'Congratulations, losers,' the 51-year-old actor concluded in the video, which had already garnered 20,570 views in just one hour.

It came nearly one week after the actor, known for his work on Boston Public, captured on video a bold thief sauntering out of the store, at 80th Street and 2nd Avenue, with two shopping bags full of stolen goods.

The Rite Aid in the video has been hit with thefts of the same nature on an almost daily basis, a security guard told Rapaport. The store will be closing on February 15, and 63 other locations will close in the coming months with a rash of thefts one of the primary reasons, the pharmacy chain announced in late December.

Quote:The Heat star captions the video: ‘Duke just went CHRISTMAS SHOPPING at @riteaid I’m TRIPPING this happened in broad day like it was nothing. New @iamrapaport discusses it all. I was just informed this Rite Aid is closing 2/15 because of this, leaving the workers JOBLESS. @ericadamsfornyc YO,' tagging the drug store chain and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

He told DailyMail.com that he initially thought the thief was an employee because ‘he was just so deliberate and casual.’

He said he was ‘disgusted’ and ‘surprised’ when he saw the thief stocking up on items from three different sections of the pharmacy before deciding he was satisfied.

'These criminals know there are no ramifications. We have to put more of these mfers in jail,' he said.

‘You see all these videos on Instagram of people shoplifting like they’re going for a walk in the park. It’s pathetic that this is happening in the greatest city in the world,’ Rapaport said last week.

Those who need stores like this in NYC can thank the city's "leadership" such as it is. Bail reform and D.A.s not enforcing laws on the books are the cause and this is the result. Will the libs of N.Y. learn? I doubt it.

I don't know who this actor is but I did find his promo for his podcasts quite funny.

Well, this tells me it’s NOT the greatest city in the world……….in fact, this cements that I have no desire to visit the place let alone live there.

Reap what you sow……live it!

He was bigger in the early 2000s. One of those actors that was in a ton of things but none were really big hits or the ones that were he did not have a large role.

I'd say his biggest role was probably in Boston Public
