Well, he did have another double double, so there's that. But as for wondering why we didn't keep pushing, all you have to do is look at that guy at the end of the bench running things.
App certainly had the right plan. Omier was double and triple teamed every time he touched it. We don't shoot well from the perimeter so if you shut that down you win. I'll expect every team we play from here to do the same.

Probably why they lost? Why was he out?
No we just did a great job defending him. Held him to 11 tonight. He still had 10 boards though.
4/10 when that would normally be 7/10, App did a good job clamping down on him, and with Fields and Sills going 4/21 it was a low-cost effort for the Mountaineers.
App dared them to step up and exploit the shutdown of Omier and they did not. That’s what coaches do. They pick their battle and challenge the other to do something about it. Worked great for App and AState had no answer.
We play the pack line defense made famous by UVA. Tonight was a perfect example of how to run that scheme well. Of course, there are times when another team gets hot from 3 and it looks like a bad idea. It works more times than not though.

A couple of things.
It's different on the road. In an interview with Brad Bobo last week, I asked the question, Road Warriors or Home Court Heroes? In A-State's two conference losses, the shooting by the guards was abysmal. Those rims aren't in FNB arena.
Omier can't do it by himself. He had a monster game against the Cajuns, but still lost because Fields, Sills and Eaton were 6-36 from the field.
If stAte can get good guard play on the road, they'll win their share. But navigating the Carolinas, Alabama and Texas is a tough chore if you don't put the ball in the hole. Until the guards show they can shoot, teams will continue to pack it in against the league's best player.

Mature player though. When he got his 5th he looked right as his coach and said “I messed up”.

Omier is really good with a lot of room to improve even more but AState can't win unless one of those three has a good game shooting and one has a competent game shooting.

Pretty Much, our two Road wins to this point came in games that Omier got significant help from the perimeter. Fields hit a key shot Saturday, and Farrington and Felts came off the bench and played well. Against App, that didn't happen.
After this week we finish @ TXST, @ UTA, @ USA, @ Troy, vs App, vs Coastal. That is a rough stretch, and will ultimately decide where we finish as a team.
