EMU vs Bowling Green on Tuesday
If no Monty or Noah we lose. If we have just one of the two players it’s a toss up. If we have both Noah and Monty we win!

So from my earlier posts, i said we don’t have guard depth. This has been the case when Monty or Noah don’t play. I love the tenacious defense that McBride and Spottsville bring to the table but neither would start for a MAC contender - hence that’s why we aren’t going to contend this season. Each player is a nice role player off the bench.

Golson can be a mismatch for MAC small forwards if he gets on the block like Kareem Carpenter back in the day. For the life of me, I don’t know why Mo ever receives a pass 10 feet from the low block which is a TO waiting to happen.

I didn’t get a chance to see the KSU game but I guess everyone was excited about our effort!

We need to steal this game regardless of who is playing for EMU. I would be getting Luka minutes because I believe he could help the team this season only due to our lack of guard depth. King Rice is not a D1 player IMHO.

RE: EMU vs Bowling Green on Tuesday
Bowling Green is 3-5 in MAC play. It’s a high-scoring team averaging 81-ppg. BG shoots both 2’s and 3’s very well.

BG’s defense is terrible as MAC opponents are averaging 84-ppg. BG is 7-point favorites to beat EMU.

BG’s leading scorer is 6’6” D.Plowden. He’s averaging 18-ppg. It’s 4 other starters- 6’8 F Reece, 6’6” G Diggs, 6’4” G S.Curtis, and 6’3” G Gordon, are each averaging 10-ppg. Curtis is a player to keep your eye-on.

Can EMU’s excellent defense hold BG’s scoring in check? Believe it can if EMU concentrates on stopping BG’s three-ball.

If EMU is not at full strength can EMU produce enough points to win? That remains to be seen.

Do expect Monty to play tonight but he hasn’t practiced much recently.

Since BG is not a good defensive team, McBride and Spottsville should play well tonight.

EMU needs NScott and Golson to score well tonight. EMU also needs scoring from another big tonight. Hopefully, Ballard plays and shoots well.

Monty pulled early. Looking a little sluggish. This Covid thing must’ve been really disruptive.

Ok, this season is falling apart…. No one seems able to score anymore… wonder if there is too much game film on them now, and EMU needs new offensive sets.

Murphy is laughing........No offensive plays, poor defense, embarrassing performance! Even if NF played tonight, it wouldn't have mattered!

RE: EMU vs Bowling Green on Tuesday
That was the worst overall game I’ve seen EMU play in awhile.

First the coaching criticism:

1) I would think that after playing more than 15 games Coach Heath would understand his roster. Instead he is confused because he played Mo, Okongo, Binelli, Jihad, N. Scott and Ballard. Why? At this point the roster needs to be shortened! Binelli and Okongo are seniors who only give us TOs and fouls. Neither one should see the floor unless it’s an emergency covid19 situation.
2) We kept sending our bigs out to defend the ball screen at the top of the key, and our bigs looked confused on how to hedge and recover. Then our bigs got beat to the hole only to allow their bigs to score or get fouled. Time after time!
3) Way too much dribbling on offense and it seemed the players reverted to street ball on offense.
4) That was the worst defense I’ve seen in a long time with no adjustment. I believe BG had almost 14-15 offensive rebounds….are you kidding me? Our players at times misjudged the rebound but mostly they were out of position and did not find their man to box out. This is unacceptable even for freshman because this is strategy!!
5) We turned the ball over way too much and most players can not handle defensive pressure. If a defender is ball hawking you, then we should be able to blow by them and get to the basket.
6) I almost forgot about getting our bigs the ball on the block not 15 feet a way from the basket. Coach Heath should watch film when Braun got the ball to Grant Long, Kareem Carpenter, Marcus Kennedy and Theron Wilson. All of these players got better in the system by catching the ball on the block and then attacking the rim. Our bigs catch the ball too far off the block which leads to TOs. Even Golson should catch the ball on the block.

Player evaluation:

I don’t like to use names and feel guilty doing it but:

1) Binelli, Okongo and King Rice should only be used as an emergency.
2) Season is practically over and time to prep for next year. Starters should be:

Pg = Luka
Sg = Noah
Sf = Monty
PF = Golson
PF = Mo

Subs:

Jihad for Mo/Golson
N . Scott for Mo / Golson
Spottsville for Golson, Monty
McBride for Luka / Noah

No others would play.

Coach Heath get this ship corrected!! If we finish under 0.500 in the conference recruiting will be difficult. The talent above even in a covid19 uncertain roster season should be able to finish 0.500 in this conference.

RE: EMU vs Bowling Green on Tuesday
Wow, that is a top notch post, Luckey’!!!

I feel there needs to be more offensive sets. Interesting point you make about the defensive pressure, I feel like this is what teams are going to keep doing as our guys can’t handle it. Not sure if our players are too slow to blow by people, or they are getting too flustered, but I feel a few adjustments or set plays will calm them down a bit. I feel other coaches have figured us out already, Heath needs to make an adjustment- both overall and in-game.

I am not sure I agree exactly with the suggested rotation, but do agree this is way too late in the season to keep experimenting with the lineups. Should have been figured out by now.

I feel this season is regressing- maybe MAC play is tougher than I was expecting given the OOC results. But there is more talent on this team to be able to beat some teams other than the dismal CMU/WMU.

Outrebounded 42-24. That is how you get blown out by a team that shoots 3-17 on three pointers.

*Kevin David Rice..."King Rice" played PG for North Carolina in the early 90's. Eastern Michigan University eventually lost to King Rice and North Carolina in the Sweet 16, 1991. That name is a blast from the past!

Luckyone: Best post. Sums it up. Would have been a close game but for EMU’s excessive fouling. EMU’s 23 fouls are unacceptable.

Also. don’t like to see players asked to do things they can’t do.
