I don’t think there’s an 8 team playoff that the SEC and the Alliance can agree on. The later wants straight 8, the later wants autobids. There’s no happy middle ground.

5-1-2 would be my preference but my compromise idea that I’ve presented before is 5-1-4 with the 4 at-larges participating in the play in games while the 6 auto-qualifiers get byes to the quarterfinal NYD bowls. Sadly, I don’t think the SEC takes anything less than the 6-6 they designed themselves while secretly negotiating to knee cap the Big 12.
