RE: Toledo vs. Ohio - CBSports network - 6 pm start
The 2nd half Moss to Milner dunk was fantastic for style points and timing - how it completed the demoralization of anyone in green - but rewatching the game today, it’s the first half alley oop from Dennis to Milner that really impressed me. When Dennis rebounded Ohio’s missed shot, all five Rockets had a foot in the paint, yet they beat the Bobcats down the floor for a 2 on 1. Even at that early stage of the game, the energy difference between the two teams was clear. Milner has a great sense for when to run out on the break.
Seems like the way to beat Toledo (other than catch us on a cold night) is to pound the offensive boards and make the Rockets pay for relying on guards to rebound. I expect Buffalo to hit the boards hard - will be interesting to see how the Rockets respond.

great confident game from rollins. he is only a 2nd year player and is gonna force a few things, but his game gets more mature all the time. early season mac player of the year? rollins vs sears: points 26/14 missed shots 7/8 assists 5/1 turnovers 3/7 rebounds 6/4 win by 18/loss by 18.
Moss is becoming an excellent passer and better finisher. was already having knee issues earlier in the season so tonight might have been a tweak to an existing injury. having him in there makes a big difference.
they played their guys and didn't really sub. we matched them and gave the starters more minutes as the game went on and OU tired first. cramped up first. had shots start coming up short first. bench play was inconsequential. towns is a handful on the glass. jacobi and carcoana are going up against older players every game. i don't think we should be harsh on their potential this season. jacobi can hold his own in some matchups. OU isolated carter on him and that was a matchup TK wasn't gonna allow and jacobi's run was shortened tonight. saunders was solid. I heard edu will be back by Valentine's Day, can anyone confirm?

To the bold; this begs the question - how do they rotate AJ into the game? I expect he will start with limited minutes until they see how he holds up to game conditions. But will he give JT and Milner a blow, or will they pull Moss and play AJ, JT, and Milner at the 3,4,5?
Coach K has said in the past AJ is the best big man in the MAC, so if he progresses without issues, will be eventually start and play max minutes? If so, who sits?
Sanders and Moss, or Saunders or AJ off the bench is a nice thing to have. A good problem to have one might say.

I bring AJ off the bench. I would be afraid to change the starting five. The chemistry is to good to mess with.

So, what happened to Wilson? He went from 15-20 minutes a game, down to 2-3 down to none pretty quickly.

I would think AJ’s minutes will be limited this year so most likely he will be used to give Shumate and Milner some spot time on the bench for rest or if they happen to get in foul trouble like last night with Shumate. Also, he might be used in certain situations where Toledo is having problems with a match up on the interior or need a defensive stop inside late in a close game. I do not think they will play him much if all with Shumate and Milner together on the floor because that will take a way a main advantage we have offensively where we can spread the floor and use our skill, versatility and athleticism which is extremely hard to defend! With that said, anything we can get out of Edu this season will be a bonus based on what we are getting from our bench currently!

So your saying they could of lost this game, the BG game and half of the future games and you would be fine? Doesn’t it matter building team chemistry and confidence going into March? Sure hot teams have won the MACC, but I’d rather have the top seed and hope we play well and have no injuries. I’ll worry about March when it gets here. Most fan bases would love the last several years, and we should have won at least 1 MACC in that time, but the rides important too.

Sutters?
I'd rate them
Milner/Spoon
Thames:under 6 foot, would dunk in the flow of the game, reverse-1 handed-mini thomahawk
Sutters: 1st explosive dunker I saw at UT, brought excitement, most of his dunks came in his 1st year after that was more of a 1 on 1 post scorer
Amos: most came off steals and hard defense, wasn't a high riser but dunked on people
Kent: had a few spectacular ones

We all kno winning the mac tournament in March is the end goal! But we have to stop as if winning the MAC regular season conference title is bad that’s great also! Hell I’m one of the few who think winning the regular season title should be the automatic bid into the ncaa tournament. I want this team to be the number 1 seed so we can have a some what decent/easy path too the championship game. I honestly think this will be the year but if it’s not I’m not going to talk crap and beat down on this team. Yea rollins prolly should of not said this was a payback game, but he’s young and living in the moment, just keep rooting for the team and make your way down to savage and support these young men!

All I am saying is we are the same thing year after. A tight rotation with limited depth. I wish we could develop more players with some level of minutes thru the season so we are not gassed in March. I would trade some of these wins in regular season if it better prepared the team for the tourney in March.
Do not get me wrong, this game was very entertaining. Enjoyed it very much. Want the same feeling after the MAC final is all

Stempin? So many huge dunks when a dunk was the only good option. And Ian Salter still ranks up there for his maybe only dunk in a Rocket uniform. My vote for best was Brown to Spoon on the inbounds play.

I share that concern. At this point in the season I was hoping one of the true freshmen would be looking like an all-MAC freshmen team candidate, and none are close to that. BUT…if we avoid injuries and if Edu can actually give this team 8-10 minutes a game, with 3 or 4 points & rebounds a game & have an influence on D, then I think this team goes 7 deep into Cleveland, with the rest of the bench providing a couple minutes for f rest here & there, and that might just be enough this time.
Yes: even I said that.

I see Edu coming off the bench in place of Jacobi, with Jacobi getting very limited minutes the rest of the year unless it's a blow out. Not worry about scoring from the bench as long as the bench players play that tough D and gives the starters some breathing time. I am with a lot of people on this site, don't mess with the chemistry of starters on this team and I think Coach K will not do that.

BTW, like I said earlier on this site, where would UT be without that Boise St transfer Dennis ? Hard to believe this young man wasn't getting the playing minutes at BSU, or was he ?

I’m with you. If we lose thurs or Friday in Cleveland, miss an at-large, and end up losing our NIT game then this season was another eye roller. Never going to complain about the Rockets winning but I hope this team isn’t peaking now and not end of February.
NCAA tourney or bust…
