RE: Penny cusses out media after last night's home loss to SMU
Deflection. How dare you question my abilities. I don't have my full roster...this is where a coach comes in handy. you know, the guy who looks at what he has and makes adjustments? the guy who pushes his freshman 5 star recruits to be more than individuals on a court? Don't disrespect me? Don't you earn respect? Clearly you have earned respect as a player and a recruiter, but not as a coach yet. Seems like Penny needs to grow up a little still.

Sounds like Penny got a well earned Come To Jesus talk from someone up the line.

Absolutely did not. Veatch has no power. Penny got Larry Brown in over his objection. Also just rehired a staff member over Veatch's objection.
President is a lame duck and the new one isn't aboard yet. The man who pays Penny is good for now. So no, he got no talking to.
Not condoning or condemning either approach. Simply saying it didn't happen.
Are people with influence unhappy and sad? Yep. But not the ones who really count and have veto power.
Same situation as Calipari. He went after the media on a regular basis. Banned media access for people he didn't like. Called them miserables. The guy who paid his salary was in his corner to the end.
Same now, just a different guy. Calipari got protection b/c he was successful. Penny gets the same b/c he is Memphis. Oscar Robertson would have gotten the same deference in Cincinnati.

At least Calipari had some achievement at Memphis that afforded him credibility. Penny hasn't come close to earning any credibility as a coach so it comes across like a whiny child making excuses and ignoring reality. Not excusing Calkins dumb question but Penny simply took a lower road that Calkins with that reply. And if wins don't start coming in bunches & attendance wanes, Penny will find his hero status in Memphis will be gone too.,,,,just ask Larry Finch (if he were here to answer) whose achievements as Memphis coach far exceeded anything Penny seems capable of achieving.

Hey, say what you will, but being one of the only players to ever lose to the same team 4 times in one season is a pretty strong achievement if you ask me.
