So what should happen to Penny?
I’m not qualified to answer that. I don’t know that anything should happen to Penny. Maybe offer a refresher course on how to handle the media?

F an apology Geoff is a prick and deserved that answer.
Sorry, but Geoff was doing his job. He is a columnist, not a fan. The program has underachieved in all 4 years of Penny’s tenure. It’s not wrong of a columnist to ask a coach, whose program is yet again in the familiar position of having to win the conference tournament to reach the NCAA’s, if 9-8 with bad losses to Murray State, UGA, Ole Miss, Tulane, ECU & SMU is embarrassing & if he still thinks he can turn it around. This is not a 1-off year… it’s Penny’s program. We all hope he can turn it around, but blaming the messenger & ignoring the problem will not fix the problem.
If his job is to be a d##k he's good at it.
I don't read that s##t or even listen to announcers during a game. Not sure what job he has except for candyazz b###h's like you that don't know what happened in a game you just watched.
Geoff’s job is to write compelling columns that attract readers: His job is not to help Penny Hardaway win basketball games.
As for my sports background, I have watched or played more sports than most. I was raised going from minor league town to minor league town chasing the dream & was fortunate enough to get fatherly perspective from a Dad who was once a #1 prospect within the most successful organization in sports. Our family was all sports all the time… it’s just what we did. You’re clueless.

I didn't mind the question, although he could've phrased it differently. Embarrassed wasn't the right word, but I think it's fair to ask. Having said that...I'm fine with Penny's answer. I like emotion and would love to see more of it from him. A suspension or fine would be a dumb move.

How is it possible that some of our fans think it is plausible that someone could get fired for saying the F word? How can that not be a joke?

Put a freakin' memo in his personnel file and move on. He's got a lot more important things to worry about at this point - the fewer distractions the better.
At performance review time have him lay out a plan to improve his performance next year.

There are times and places where it's no big deal. I use eff bombs all the time but not in public settings within earshot of someone I don't know and most certainly not in what is supposed to be a professional environment.
By your logic it would be ok for our POTUS to get on national television and start condemning the opposing party with language like that.
Bottom line is it just isn't very professional.
But, maybe I'm just old fashioned that way.

In general, probably not. Using it while representing the university, probably so.
Brevity, I like. I'd use a whole lot more words to say the same thing.
