Anyone who thought two more schools would be added any time soon listens WAY too much to SicEm365.

So what are the predominant OOC games going to look like? Looks like leaks out of Iowa that OOC is sticking within the alliance for the B1G. If the Alliance stick to themselves, does that lead to a scheduling alliance with the SEC? We already have the Sugar Bowl relationship......

That would be mutually beneficial for both leagues.

I forget, what was the Alliances' reasoning for not including the Big 12 again?

RE: Big 12 will have 9 game conference schedule
IDK, I think these Alliance games (at least for football) are not going to be as widespread as we think. I can't see, for instance, Ohio State going to Corvallis to take on Oregon State or Washington going to Wake Forest. My guess is we'll see occasional matchups of the stronger brands (ie. Michigan v. USC, Miami v. Penn State, Ohio State v. Florida State, etc.). With so many OOC games in hoops there is greater flexibility to schedule. I also don't see the ACC giving up their OOC series' (UGA/GT, UK/UL, South Carolina/Clemson, Miami/Florida). If anything there were be occasional scheduling in football IMHO between the alliance.

As to the BXII going forward, we certainly will have some limitations and trying to get something started with the SEC sounds like a good idea. They will likely be open to this as well.

Why isn't the Big 12 part of the Alliance?

That contract is through 2025 and I don't think Iowa would hate getting out of the series.

RE: Big 12 will have 9 game conference schedule
Rumor was that the Alliance didn't include the Big XII because UT and OU had just announced they were leaving and they knew the conference was dealing with that. Once that settled, since no comment was made that the Big XII would also be included, it's largely been thought that it was more of a gesture than an actual alliance.

Didn't the PAC-12 and B16 already have something like this? And not much really ever came of it?

RE: Big 12 will have 9 game conference schedule
Bringing this thread back up, as I was thinking about something...

The Big 12 has been pretty neutral, maintaining a friendly relationship with the "Alliance" despite not being in it, while voting with the SEC on expansion and mostly remaining quiet of late in terms of the SEC raiding the Big 12 (Bowlsby was vocal early, but it's mostly been dropped). Currently, the SEC plays 8 conference games, and there is talk from earlier in the thread about trying to start a scheduling alliance with them.

The ACC also plays 8 conference games. How about trying to get a scheduling alliance with both the ACC and the SEC? The Big Ten has already come out and said they are dropping the scheduling part of the alliance, which doesn't really hurt them or the Pac-12 (9 games each), but does hurt the ACC. If we play 9 games with 12 teams, I fear we will beat up on each other like the Pac-12 and end up with no undefeated or 1-loss teams many years.

Let's see if we can work out something where we play 6 games vs. the ACC and 6 vs. the SEC each season and drop the 9th conference game. I feel like both conferences would be more likely to agree to something if it's not an all-in proposition -- i.e having 12 of their members locked in to playing the Big 12 each year. It would be better for us on several fronts, and would keep us aligned with 2 power conferences from each side of the CFP expansion debate...

RE: Big 12 will have 9 game conference schedule
I just think the ACC would be willing to work with the Big 12 now because the Big Ten is blowing up the Alliance scheduling agreement. 6 and 6 vs. the ACC and SEC would be ideal, or maybe even 9 vs. the ACC (since 5 teams will play Notre Dame) and 3 vs. the SEC. Would also get us some road games in crucial recruiting territory like Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Those states are all inside the top 20 in terms of FBS signees produced.

RE: Big 12 will have 9 game conference schedule
Didn't someone from the Big 10 (Ohio St I think) pretty much say the other day, there is no real alliance for scheduling and they were not going to do anything different than they already were?

I like having 4 OOC games to get more variety in opponents. Assuming that last game is with a decent opponent. It does not have to be an Alabama or LSU type, just not FCS or New Mexico St either. This could also give the conference a higher overall winning % if done right as opposed to the guaranteed .500 with conference games.

Playing 4 home/4 away every year is also better than 4 home/5 away every other year. It always seems like you have you most potentially successful teams on the years you have more away games.

In the end, it comes down to if more conference games are worth a lot more than a 4th mostly home OOC game. With the lack of any blue blood names in the conference, I am not sure which would be higher.

To TV Partners....Conf Games are much more valuable than adding a 4th non-conf game vs cannon fodder.

Even ESPN is trying to work with the new 16 tam SEC to see if they can bite on a 9th conf game...as now they have more conf game content...ESPN knows those games will be MUCH more valuable to advertisers vs those horrible non conf I-AA games on the 2nd week of Nov before rivalry weekend.

Personally, I would love to see some sort of scheduling alliance between the Big XII and the ACC. Certain games fairly scream to be scheduled, IMO.

I discussed this very thing in the second half of my ACCFootballRx blog post "Jim Phillips Picked the Wrong Allies".
