Quote:Here’s a clear public metric that precludes 7-5 forever: “Western Michigan Director of Athletics Dan Bartholomae announced the extension and added that for every eight-win season moving forward, Coach Lester's contract would be extended for an additional year.”
Looks like we ain't playing MSU + OSU in the same season again! Hey CUSA-Division-1-DoubleA! We're playing ya non-conf! :)
Quote:He hasn't had a losing season since he got here, he has a winning record against CMU and just beat the ACC Champ and won the second bowl game in program history.
I think the issue tho is -- not playing to the potential. That's what PJ did; maximized our potential when he got the ball rolling. We beat ACC champs + MAC champs, and blew the hell out of the MAC East champs, yet went 4-4 in the MAC in a non-strong MAC year. Got bent over by Ball State at home, agonizingly blow it against @EMU in the end, and somehow at home lose to CMU when if we played in-line to what should be our "norm", we unquestionably would have won that one. And of course, got handled by an up-and-down Toledo (which, that game, isn't a WTF; that one's 'fine').
So basically, in a non-strong MAC year, with our assets, going 10-2 to re-face Kent State in the MACC wouldn't require a tailwind of luck on our side, but just playing to our potential -- and being one of the top G5s and ranked, as our highlight wins very clearly showed.
It's our "skitzo" results that have people scratching their heads. The great, the bad, and the ugly.
That said, we of course don't want to give our alumni Lester some big hot seat right now. I think it's just that we should avoid praising, is all.
But going 7-5 every year should put him on the hot seat, barring any Big bowl wins as a nice topping (like CMU beating Wash State).
