It was more than likely Pitt.

Frank Solich. Great, no MAC Championships

This sounds like a 'new AD sitting down w/ him & discussing the state of the program, what do we need to to do to get better, & are we meeting the program's goals' kind of thing.

I’m okay with this. Lester’s no dummy and will do the best he can to meet its terms. Will it be enough?

This is where I'm at. If Lester's ceiling is Frank Solich, is it enough? Solich was a consistent winner at Ohio.
-Over 15 seasons he had 8+ wins 9 times.
-Finished 1 time in the AP top 25.
-Won his division 4x
-He's responsible for all 5 bowl wins in the history of Ohio football
He's not Peej, but he's sure as hell better than Darnell and Cubit. Over the past 20 years we have cumulatively a very average team. Ohio was certainly above average, even without winning a conference title, and let's be honest, he was really close to getting his first over the unbeaten Broncos.
If our coach is better than Lester, are we doomed to be Toledo, being also above average, but losing our trending coach to a bigger program every 4+ years (Pinkell, Beckman, Campbell, now possibly Candle moving on)

KB would have extended him 5 years with no minimum win mandate

Yeah, I'm happy that the new AD set a standard and expectation. Doesn't sound like he's messing around.

If you aren't losing your cosch, you aren't successful in the MAC. It's a stepping stone league. Embrace it or live in mediocrity for fear of losing your coach.

If wmu were in the MAC East, would TL be more successful?? And would we be more successful over the last 15 years or so?
Seems like the MAC west is much stronger each year.
Just my two cents.

I agree, but if you look at Toledo over the same period of time as Solich was at Ohio, Toledo and Ohio had the same number of division wins (4). Toledo did get 1 conference championship title. They both got landmark road wins against P5's with Michigan and Penn State.
They're basically two wildly different programs with the same outcome, both of which have been measures better than us in the last 15 years

So do we know who starting QB is this coming year or is it up in the air?

Likely up in the air.
Seems like Salopek would be the logical heir apparent as his style fits the mold of what we're used to. Although Hrabowski saw far more action this past season. If it's Hrabowski, our entire offense will look like a different animal.
We also have the Alabama walk-on transfer, but I have no idea how much of a threat to the starting position he is.

I thought it would be interesting to play Salopek and Hrabowski at the same time on occasions. Salopek, the passer, and Hrabowski, the runner, would bring some creative offensive plays to the game.

"Mediocrity is not generally rewarded in life"
Uhhh... kid... mediocrity is generally rewarded everywhere. Literally everywhere. There are very few elite programs and organizations.
"Returning to the kind of success it had under PJ Fleck"
1. We had one season above 8 wins under PJ Fleck
2. It's never going to happen again. Ever. Stop thinking it ever will. The money Fleck was spending, the resources he had, the President - it's all different. Just stop with this nonsense.

When I think mediocrity, the Western Herald definitely comes to mind, and that article—a long regurgitation of stats—aspires to mediocrity.

Unreal.

Unreal.
And he lost to BOTH Central and Eastern Michigan. The third consecutive loss to Eastern.
Bowl games are nice, but they are gravy. Gotta beat your rival for survival. There is NO EXCUSE to lose to EMU three in a row and NEVER an excuse to lose to BOTH Central and Eastern the same season.
