Can't blame him one bit for the excitement. These guys never die! Pulling out dubs when you are not at your best is the sign of a very good team!

Yep, these guys are unreal. I haven’t seen a comeback team like this in a long time. As fans, we are beginning to expect it now. It’s nuts man. As the coach in Hoosiers said: “ I love you guys”.

Yes they are Bill! I hope it translates into more support for them in the community. I'd love to see Trask at or near capacity for these guys heading down the stretch! They certainly deserve it.

We know it will likely be packed for Vonte's jersey retirement. That should be a given

Yep, great call by Coach Hackert drawing up that play. He must come from really good coaching stock/DNA.

They both knew the play. Kudos to Hackert for suggesting it. And kudos to Siddle for listening and agreeing to run it. Shows me the assistants are allowed to actually have input in making decisions.

RE: @JMU - GAME 13 - CAA GAME 4
I mentioned it after the Charleston game, and it was true again last night: Jamarii Thomas was right in the middle of the celebration just like he was the guy who made the shot, despite getting his second DNP of the season. It's a big change from high school, when he was a ball-dominant PG on a championship team. There are a number of spots around here he could be playing big minutes right now, but clearly, he'd rather wait to be a bigger part of this.

These guys are absolutely thrilled for one another and can't wait to pass the credit to someone else. I must have heard Siddle say that Hackert came up with the play five times last night.

That says a lot about how dramatically the culture has shifted in a matter of one year, and going forward with the transfer portal, that's going to be more important than ever. If we've got guys that ACC programs want, why give up winning at UNCW with guys you love for MAYBE getting minutes elsewhere? On the flip side, we'll have eight guys telling their high-major friends how much fun they're having in Wilmington.

Winning cures everything! But kudos to the staff on getting them all to buy in.

Perhaps a chicken/egg situation, but I think buy-in happens first, and the winning follows. But obviously, its also easier to buy in when you start seeing the fruits of your labor play out positively in the W-L column.

Credit to the coaches for keeping the guys invested even when we were playing some bad basketball early in the season, and credit to the players for being mentally tough and fighting through the adversity.

I absolutely agree with what you’re cooking here. The recipe appears to be there for success, and potentially even sustained success. I think it’s awesome that Thomas is celebrating with the guys just as hard when he doesn’t play as when he does.

However… I’m glad you brought up the transfer portal. It’s very rare for players to announce mid season they want to go play elsewhere. Additionally, last year we saw A LOT of players leave the program. Granted, the success in conference we’ve seen so far wasn’t there. Im just saying, it seems a bit early to say some of these guys won’t be going elsewhere. Obviously, that’s the hope though. This group seems to be getting it done well together.

Im hoping none of our future stars get pulled away, but it’s definitely too early to insinuate they won’t.

RE: @JMU - GAME 13 - CAA GAME 4
Hopefully we can get back to the point that players will come into our top level program and will wait their turn to move into playing and starting roles. When a team is starting freshmen it's a sign of a recruiting problem or because players have transferred out. If the quality of the existing players isn't good, you have to rely on freshmen. Fortunately we aren't in the position. Add to it the extended years of play that have been given to NCAA teams and there is a log jam of upperclass players.

Thomas is a dynamic player and his time will come, but I hope he takes the time to talk to one of the all time greats at UNCW who will have his name hung in the rafters next month and is playing ball for a living. Ask him how often he played as a freshman at UNCW?

I think the transfer portal has a lot to do with it too. Just gives players a lot more option than they historically had, and added visibility.

Absolutely, definitely have to buy in at least partially first. I think my point was is that when you are winning, it’s perhaps easier to think about the team first especially if you are playing less of a role. I mean most of us played something n competitively in our lives and let’s face It, winning is fun!
