TK from Tonight's Coaching Show
The following are some of TK’s interesting comments from his Coaches Show tonight.

• Obviously likes how the team is playing, especially the Starting 5. One area where they need to improve on is turnovers, and he thinks it is more about guys like Dennis just needing to make the smart pass instead of the spectacular one.

• Likes what Moss brings to the team both defensively and as a complementary offensive player and says he is the type of player that other coaches would love to have but disdain when they play for the other team. He thinks that is something that they have not had in the past which has brought tremendous value to the team this season.

• Mentioned that Farmer might be moving up in the pecking order of playing time as he has bought into playing defense and continues to improve. Also said that he likes how Carcoana is playing in limited minutes and thinks has the potential to be a good good player in the league down the road if he continues to improve his work ethic and intensity.

• In response to a caller’s question about next year’s team, he said that Shumate and Milner will be coming back to meet their graduation requirements in education and business, respectively. He thinks that Dennis will be back for two more seasons and that Edu will be back for at least one more season.

• In another caller’s question about how does he go about recruiting High School Seniors for the 2022 Class when they do not “technically” have scholarships available, he said that he expects some players to leave because of future limited playing time. They are mostly recruiting for the 2023 Class but are still recruiting a couple of current seniors. He ended by saying that they will also be looking at the Transfer Portal come springtime to see if there is anyone available to fill a need based on whoever leaves.

• Mentioned two players on Ball St that they need to pay close attention to -- the guard Northern Illinois Transfer Cochran and the Freshman Center Sparks who he called the best “true” center in the league. Says Sparks is very physical and draws a lot of fouls many by flopping!

Thanks for the report. If we can get a healthy Edu for 1 1/2 years, that would be huge.

I am just wondering who would leave the team after this season, perhaps Saunders, Hill, Wilson ? I would hope whoever does transfer out, would be outside the conference. I would hate to see former UT players do well against UT.

Kowalczyk said Saunders is going to graduate this year with 2 more years of eligibility left. Will Keshaun return to Toledo after graduating?

Eythorsson is a complete unknown to me. Maybe he's redshirting and will be back or maybe the coaches will encourage him to look somewhere he can get more playing time. Has anyone on this board seen the Ice Man in practice?

RE: TK from Tonight's Coaching Show
would think Eythorsson, Hill and possibly Saunders.

Eythorsson is a rs by all appearances. He could go juco for 1 or 2 years and transfer back into D1, go D2 or try to find an interested D1 program. Then again, maybe he goes back home or tries to play pro ball in Europe, dunno.

Would be good to have a 2nd true pg, because right now if Dennis was to go down that means Rollins switches to the point and we lose his wing presence. Still, I think between injuries and minimal production whe he is healthy, Hill hasn't shown the likelihood of being a rotation contributor. I think he can play D1. Wonder if they will play him the rest of the year now that he is healthy, or keep him on the bench to get a rs year. EIther way he is at worst a soph next year eligibility wise and should have lots of options as he seems to be a good student and teammate.

Saunders has probably maxxed out his role at UT. If Edu gets healthy, we'll see shumate and milner play more wing next year and there will be less guard/wing minutes. Dennis and Rollins aren't giving any up and Moss will play a lot too. Plus, Farmer and Wilson have at least as much all around talent as Saunders-you could argue each have a higher ceiling. So, I think the likelihood is Saunders makes a move. If the Rockets finish strong and Saunders has some good games down the stretch he's be a valuable mid major recruit in the portal as a veteran from a winning program who could be either a starting wing or 6th man type.

Hate to see guys go in most cases, but I think the reality is 2 or 3 guys leave each year and with no seniors and a few guys who don't look like they'll ever by starters, you expect that changeover.

I agree on the three mentioned as possible transfers I'd love to keep Keshaun but he may be gone.

Next years team could be epic. Let's hope for some solid UT basketball over next few years.

Good time to be a UT rockets basketball fan.

Still would like to see that 6-8 or 6-9 235 power forward type, a transfer or a Big 10 type 5th year senior.

Got a sense from what TK said about Farmer maybe moving up in the pecking order is that it will take minutes away from Saunders. The only thing TK mentioned about Saunders other than him graduating after this year with two years of eligibility remaining, is that he needs to improve defensively. I think it comes down to Saunders, Farmer and Wilson showing the coaches who can be trusted, and that will determine who comes off the bench the rest of the season. We could really use 1 or 2 of them to step up to give our wing players some needed rest!

I think the incoming freshman Simmons will fit that role nicely !!
He’s about 6-7 220 and could end up being a nice inside presence for the program for years to come... I was hoping Jacobi would be the second coming of Dick Miller, but until the kid bulks up and takes it strong to the hoop we are going to see a lot more missed layups/putbacks by the young man ...

If Mihai Carcoana goes the portal route, it will have to be a bigger portal.

The shows are archived on the utrockets website under Multimedia pick in the main menu. Then select on-demand.

Although be warned, the archived streams are typically full of dropouts or other artifacts that can make listening frustrating.

Now if you really meant shoes and not shows, then well, I can't help. :)
