RE: CBB Week 10 General Thread/Laughable scores
I didn't see the Marquette-Nova game but it must have been exciting.

I did see the end of the DePaul-Xavier game. Blue Demons down one and with 20 seconds to go and the DePaul player just dribbles around. No set play. No strategy. Just sad. Another loss. Well, at least DU is competitive when it loses, so some progress is being made.

On the topic of Penny, after Memphis lost at home to SMU last night, he snapped at reporters that were questioning if he could get job done. I was certain he'd be back for next year, but when you turn on the media, all bets are off.

Indiana finally beat Purdue after a long drought. Everyone's able to beat Purdue at home this year, even Rutgers! ... except Illinois of course.

Yeah. That was a bit strange last night for sure. Just no point guard for them- they rank right now this year #352 in turnover percentage at 23.9%. 22.6% in conference play in a conference that ranks #23 in turnovers. Only teams nation wide that turn over the ball more than Memphis-
Prairie View A&M
Houston Baptist
Eastern Illinois
William & Mary
Delaware St
IUPUI

He built an AAU team- but one major part of AAU teams is having a good point guard.

Memphis has been mediocre (bordering on bad overall) for three reasons:

1. Only one true point guard (who is so-so) on the roster, and he has missed multiple games

2. The team has been without at least one (and sometimes two) of its top five most important players in most games

3. Penny is, simply put, not a very skilled overall coach

I've been an Indiana fan since 1987 and I was about as excited as I've ever been for the Hoosiers after the game last night.

Interesting stat. Obviously, other programs have dealt with personnel challenges. But the main loss for Memphis has been DeAndre Williams, who is the heart, soul and leader of the team. His absence has hugely negatively impacted the team.

Is he a point guard? Don't think so. He played when they played Georgia and lost- Georgia is one of the worst teams in major college basketball right now.

You say Lomax and I'd say they're only 6-6 when he plays. So how exactly good is he? And he's the only point guard around. That's an issue.

Williams is a power forward and very versatile. I think he has missed six games (with UM 1-5 in those). It's one thing to lose a quality player but Williams is the true warrior and leader of the team. A major blow.

Lomax was the starting point guard (very mediocre) until he got injured. He's back — but at this point, it won't make much difference. The Tiger season is shot.

Do you remember when people on here were making that Georgia win a big deal? Georgia sucks badly hahaha

You know what would make sense for Memphis to do right now- self impose a postseason ban for themselves this year to help them out with their recruiting violation case. You pretty much know they're dead in the water right now, so would make a lot of sense.

(I say this as someone who absolutely despises teams being able to do that by the way).

That is not a bad idea. I kind of like it.

I think Auburn if they can hold on should absolutely be #1 over Gonzaga right now in the polls.
