RE: NBA Standings
Boston I think is in deep trouble. Think folks overvalued a bit based on last series- but thinking that might be more on the Nets than it was the Celtics. Memphis better win tomorrow, or they could be done on Monday.

RE: NBA Standings
While it's not quite to the NFL standards, the parity level in the NBA has got much better the last few seasons. Honestly any of the last 8 teams standing, had a shot at the title with things falling their way. The difference in whole series were a couple of possessions or injuries here and there. Nobody knows that more than the fans here in Memphis.

More than just a couple of possessions for Phoenix. 07-coffee3

Seriously, though, I had no rooting interest in that series whatsoever, and even I started feeling bad for the Suns yesterday about that game 7.

RE: NBA Standings
Conference finals:

EASTERN CONFERENCE
Miami Heat (1) vs. Boston Celtics (2)
• Game 1: Boston vs. Miami | Tuesday, May 17 | 8:30 ET | ESPN
• Game 2: Boston vs. Miami | Thursday, May 19 | 8:30 ET | ESPN
• Game 3: Miami vs. Boston | Saturday, May 21 | 8:30 ET | ABC
• Game 4: Miami vs. Boston | Monday, May 23 | 8:30 ET | ABC
• Game 5*: Boston vs. Miami | Wednesday, May 25 | 8:30 ET | ESPN
• Game 6*: Miami vs. Boston | Friday, May 27 | 8:30 ET | ESPN
• Game 7*: Boston vs. Miami | Sunday, May 29 | 8:30 ET | ESPN

WESTERN CONFERENCE
Golden State Warriors (3) vs. Dallas Mavericks (4)
• Game 1: Dallas vs. Golden State | Wednesday, May 18 | 9 ET | TNT
• Game 2: Dallas vs. Golden State | Friday, May 20 | 9 ET | TNT
• Game 3: Golden State vs. Dallas | Sunday, May 22 | 9 ET | TNT
• Game 4: Golden State vs. Dallas | Tuesday, May 24 | 9 ET | TNT
• Game 5*: Dallas vs. Golden State | Thursday, May 26 | 9 ET | TNT
• Game 6*: Golden State vs. Dallas | Saturday, May 28 | 9 ET | TNT
• Game 7*: Dallas vs. Golden State | Monday, May 30 | 8 ET | TNT

I'll go Boston and Dallas in 7. Heat might have a shot but I think Boston is too hot right now and just knocked off the champs. As for Golden State, I think they have to keep their heads in it to beat a hot Dallas team... won't surprise me if they win, but they have to be sharp every game.

RE: NBA Standings
The Warriors’ biggest challenge with the Mavericks is that, with their personnel, when they put a strong defensive group on the floor, they have at least two guys who rarely shoot, and the opponent can focus on denying shots to just a couple of Warriors. Conversely if they put four scorers on the floor, the defense is not great. The Mavs’ core of players has at least a little more offense/defense versatility.

We have a "NBA Final Four" that the league and media companies love: Boston, Dallas, Miami, and San Francisco.

And then there were two. Much better matchup for overall fans of the game with the Celtics facing the Warriors rather than the Heat. Could be another long series.

Two original NBA franchises in their 75th year in the NBA's 75th NBA Finals. And yet they've only met once before in the Finals. Certainly not the Celtics' fault...

Recently it is the Celtics' fault. Their last trip to the Finals before this year was in 2010; the Warriors are in their 6th Finals in the last 8 years.

Yeah, a lot of people here think the Warriors are going to roll. I'm happy they're back in the Finals. It's been fun watching them bounce back after the last couple of years. If they don't win this year, I can live with it. Before Lacob and Guber bought the team, you'd have thought they'd never win one, and this group already has three.

The Celtics are hard to figure out. Sometimes they look unbeatable, and sometimes they lose a few games because they tighten up, like in the last two games against Miami, or because they keep bricking 3-pt attempts, like in (I think it was) game 2 against Milwaukee. They're the toughest possible matchup for the Warriors because of their size. Looney and Green might be in foul trouble every game, and if they are, the Warriors don't really have anyone else to guard Horford and the Williamses.

And since you mentioned the only other time these teams played in the Finals...

Well, I guess the best did win out. Honestly the finals games weren't too riveting. The Warriors overachieved and the Celtics definitely underachieved. The draft Thursday night should be interesting.

RE: NBA Standings
The Warriors won the championship by playing better defense than the media and the Celtics thought they were capable of playing.

It's pretty great. This title is probably my favorite, but you can't ever take it for granted.

After all, this is what it was like to be a Warriors fan only 10 years ago (and might be someday again):

Quote:by BILL SIMMONS ON MARCH 21, 2012

You might not know this, you might not believe it … but once upon a time, the Golden State Warriors won the NBA championship.

The big day happened in the spring of 1975, well before things like cable TV, DirecTV, computers, video games, iPads, iPods, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, e-mails and the Internet. They swept Washington in the Finals thanks to a transcendent effort from Rick Barry, one of the best 25 players of all time and the finest passing forward of his generation. The following spring, the heavily favored Warriors blew their chance to repeat because Barry fought Phoenix’s Ricky Sobers in the first half of Game 7 of the Western Finals, bristled when his teammates didn’t defend him, then refused to shoot for the next hour.

And so it began. Three and a half decades later, the Golden State Warriors have morphed into the most tortured franchise in professional basketball. Unlike the Clippers (a perennial laughingstock until recently), the Suns (a classic came-oh-so-close team), the Cavaliers (not even the second-most tortured franchise in their own city) and Kings (historical nomads), the Warriors lack an identity beyond the whole “they suck every year, they always screw up, but at least they have great fans” tag. Doesn’t that really mean that their fans are just loyal saps? What keeps them coming back? At what point do you just throw your hands up and scream, “ENOUGH”?
