Didn’t Pensacola put some money into their arena getting updates specifically for getting the SBC tournament? I think it would be nice just to keep it there. Nice town with adequate hotels and restaurants. The Bay Center is around the perfect size too.

It seems like it would be easier to lure fans there just because of the mostly good weather and beautiful beaches. People can double as a vacation as well. That way if your team goes home early you can still enjoy the beach for the rest of you stay. Just my 2 cents. Rotating it like you mentioned would be fine as well.

Yes they did and they actually promote it within their city.

I'm fine with it staying there as well. Just throwing out ideas if the league decided to move.

I think in Olden times, the SBC Championship tournament was held at the Hampton Virginia Coliseum once... Either ODU or VCU won that one...

UTA was close four times in the last decade, but didn’t get over the hump. We made a move, and were close once in the last three years, while sporting a sub .500 record overall.

And in Year 3 with Troy HC Scott Cross has the Trojans playing some solid basketball. Crazy to see the way he’s turned us around already. I think if we can keep him in another year or two we should be a force to be reckoned with week in and week out against SBC opponents.

One man’s loss is another man’s gain.

I'm not sure he'll leave Troy unless he gets a big-time P5 offer that's in a great location. One thing I've noticed about Cross is that he seems pretty loyal.

He lives within walking distance of Trojan Arena, has facilities that's easy to recruit with, has an AD and Chancellor who are big fans of him, his kids are now in high school and have become part of a state championship program, he has excellent job security, and he's getting paid close to $450,000, which is one of the higher salaries in the SBC.

In looking at the media guide, that’d be 1985 when it was played at Hampton Coliseum. VCU and ODU played in the championship final, VCU winning 87-82.

He mentioned how great the city and University were to him and his family when he came to Arlington. He does appear truest happy. He gave us a hometown discount in his 12-seasons. I wonder how that will apply in Troy.

I wonder if he would consider returning to Arlington as the AD. That's how Lamar lured Billy Tubbs back to Beaumont. I'm just saying........

Hope not. ADs don’t typically make 450k a year which is what he’s currently getting either tho.

I imagine once he wants to retire from coaching maybe. But I could be wrong I don’t know him personally. I do know he’s WELL liked at Troy.

I think he will stay at Troy awhile, because I think he wants to build a real good basketball tradition and he is getting there at Troy.

My educated guess is he will be at Troy a bit, establish a winning record, and analyze his options. I suspect, pending a great offer, he will stay at least until all three of his boys graduate.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this question:

Are any regular season Sun Belt bball games on linear ESPN networks? Or all ESPN+? I see that only the conference championship seems to be on ESPN2?

Wonder if that will change if we improve a bit in basketball and/or if something was worked into the new media deal.

Unfortunately, it's usually like 1 or 2 games max.

TXST put up a great ESPN game with UTA a couple of years ago in Arlington. 3OT’s. The kitties won by 2 in the end. I don’t think any team had big lead and it was back and forth for 55 minutes.

This year it is 2 games. First one took place back on January 13 and was Georgia State at South Alabama. Second game is going to be February 25, the last day of the regular season. Which game it is will be announced around 14 days out.

We need to keep him around long term, if possible. The culture change in our basketball program is evident.
