Holy cow! Lot of Plaza crew on this chain---I too was Plaza---mid 80s....that was top notch back then---closer to campus than the dorms---honestly, pretty damn good food....and of course---the path. (Then my son lived there a few years back after the ownership sold and they became apartments...very nice apartments but not exactly the same feel).

I was 84-85----8 North--RA was Mike. Any others with a range in there, RA...etc.

83-84. South tower. 6th flr. Good times. So, you know Linda Lujack? or Lisa Lujeck? How about Mary Kay Schroth?

Maybe my years are off---100% was there when Linda Lujack was there---Larry's daughter----she got pregnant and had to leave------don't know the name Mary Kay....

The big talk then was that a Penthouse model lived there during the time of her shoot coming out Sue Napoli---or something close to that----she lived on the floor below us.

I lived there when Susan Napoli was there, that was 85-86. Do you remember her and the hypnotist.
And the aerobic girls!!!! OMG!

I don't remember the hypnotist thing. It was probably classic if you are remembering 35 years later. We were certainly there at the same time---but with 1,000 people probably wouldn't even know you. Spent a lot of time near that front desk talking sports with the RAs working there.

Walking across to the fieldhouse for games was great--Kenny Battle, Brad Waller, Rodney Davis------I remember the center---John Culbertson---he always had a weird look on him--we always joked that his head was screwed on and whoever put in on stopped about a quarter turn from straight. Good times in that place.

I used to enjoy walking around naked in the Plaza. But, once management saw me and stopped laughing, they made me move over to the girls wing! 03-weeping

I don't know if this was a put on or if he truly was hypnotized. But the hypnotist said the guy will lose his sex drive when he is hypnotized. The first thing he said is "Where is my di*k?" And he kept on saying that on the stage and then went up to Susan Napoli and kept asking where it was. Like I said, it could have been a farce, but she was not happy about it and walked out.

John Culbertson was one cool guy. He would always talk to you. Too bad injuries got the better of him.

Do you remember the football team having the whole second floor? One guy I used to hate was Doug Bartlett, but once you get past that hard-nose- demeanor, he is actually a really good guy. He was always up for a game of euchre.

No. The Grotto was a respectable, high-class establishment. At the Grotto, I'd walk around with a leopard pattern Spandex thong. If I wore that thing now, it would take me a week to find it to remove it!

Remember when the students in the West end bleachers -- can't remember what they were called -- were holding open copies of that issue of Penthouse and chanting "She goes here! She goes here!" against Central Michigan. One of the Chips had a string of consecutive free throws made broken and ended the game something like 2-or-7 at the line.

RE: NIU Major Fundraising Campaign
Pure gee-whiz-if-only ... but ... if someone acquired both 901 Lucinda (former VCB building and property (listed at $3 million) AND the open space north/behind it, that would make a teriffic "heart" of campus with restoration of the Watson Creek watershed portion. Could tie a walkway across Glidden from the dorms to a path from UP down around to Lucinda sidewalk and into campus center. Since we're spending somebody else's money, include a rehab of the Fieldhouse ground-level (butt ugly) facade, maybe a semi-sheltered exterior walkway around to the classroom buildings.

But ... naaah ... that makes too much sense for NIU

I vaguely remember that story. Those fans were hilarious. I remember the famous Kenny Battle/Ron Harper game where a guard on Miami had a Prince-like hairstyle. And right before he was going to take a free throw, those fans broke out in a chorus of Purple Rain.
I just remembered the Miami player double clutching his shot and missing the basket.

Hell yeah I remember the football team on 2 south….athletics had a lot of players and sports there, pretty sure because of the food and ability to have the suites and private bathrooms.

Being built in the 60s, those owners were way ahead of their time….suites…private bathrooms, no freshmen….way ahead of the curve back then.

Doug was the sh*t back then….and I remember him the same as you….badass teddy bear…..good dude.

That is amazing, and truly cancelable in today's speak.

This is probably unrelated, but they brought a hypnotist into the student center for our freshman year. He ended up hypnotizing my buddy, who admitted to everyone there that he had a crush on a girl on floor, including the girl on our floor. It was awkward, they never ever hooked up, and he's probably still a virgin to this day. He did say that he was conscious and knew what was happening the whole time, just couldn't do anything about it. This was back in the Fall of 2006.

Yes, the good old days of the Field House. The white students sat in the west end bleachers and the black students sat in the east end bleachers.

Compared to the dorms( I was at Douglas freshman year), it was paradise!
Marshall Taylor! When you see him in the cafeteria with that baby face standing 5'7", you would never think he was the starting QB for a DIv. 1 team leading the Petti-bone( Wishbone) offense. Hell of an athlete and good guy. Always upbeat.

Poor guy, but great story. I remember overhearing the hypnotist tell the manager at the Plaza that it was hard to hypnotize the crowd because he thought most of them were under the influence of Marijuana. He was right.

Hmm. Never heard this before.

Remember when the students in the West end bleachers -- can't remember what they were called -- were holding open copies of that issue of Penthouse and chanting "She goes here! She goes here!" against Central Michigan. One of the Chips had a string of consecutive free throws made broken and ended the game something like 2-or-7 at the line.

the verbal abuse section. Ahh those were the days! And I think that game was on some sort of TV, which was an extreme rarity at the time.

Everyone would stand until the visitor would score a bucket and then throw toilet paper on the floor. Fun times.
