Fast Break Club Zoom call with Caoch Fischer
Coach Fischer had his first Zoom call this evening with the new MBB Fast Break Club with 57 in attendance!

Key comments from Coach included:

Home game for Saturday with JMU might be the first time all players will be available to play!

Players are understanding better the level of effort needed for 40 minutes and we are playing with more confidence plus our bench is getting more involved.

Thinks that both Yuri and Ben are providing leadership by their playing effort while Conner is providing it vocally along with Wash doing it from the bench.

We have multiple "clutch" player options which will change game to game.

One key metric that the team has is 12 or less TO per game. Coach stated the team had extra conditioning drills these last 2 weeks to help with this.

Coach answered tons of questions and we all appreciated his time!

Current plans are to have our first Fast Break Club meeting 90 minutes before the Gold Rush game in the Person Room on Feb 5. Come join us!

During the Zoom I, of course, asked Coach Fischer about recruiting, if they were looking for high school recruits, grad transfers, or multi-year transfers to fill the two remaining scholarship spots and he said “Yes” haha. All options will be considered this spring though he reiterated that the team will be built mostly by high school recruits because that is the demographic that the school appeals to the most (or something like that). He also said that NIL hasn’t affected their recruiting yet.

Fast Break Club Zoom call with Caoch Fischer
Just curious, at the Coach Fischer zoom meetings, does he address the alarming degree that we commit turnovers? We average about 17 a game. 2nd worst in all of D1. To be honest, I was surprised it wasn't higher. It feels like most games we hit the 20 TO mark. His team goal of 12 per game isn't even close. I'm sure his response would be to blame youth and inexperience. I'm also sure this is true to a degree. I guess my question is, what is being done to combat them? Is simply playing time enough to make the turnovers go away? Are they making consequences for turning it over in practice? The previous post stated that they did conditioning drills? Is this code for make them run for turnovers?
I believe this Tribe squad is very talented. We have athletic guys that can defend, run, and score. Giving teams potentially 20 more scoring opportunities (while taking away our chances) pretty much negates all other positives and makes winning basketball more a fluke than anything consistent to build on.

Coach is very clear TO's are an issue and the team knows the target is 12 or less per game. Coach mentioned during the layoff for Covid that the team had additional "conditioning drills" to help with this. He did not expand.

Progress is coming as we had only 11 TO each in the loss to Delaware and Towson.

Come to our inaugural meeting of the Fast Break Club on 2/5/22 in the Person Room at 2:30pm as we will have Coach briefly speak prior to the game along with Brian Mann. Membership is free this first year and you can sign up here:

It should be noted that despite the low turnovers, W&M lost to Towson by 22 and to Delaware by 10. There are plenty of things to correct in practice.
