Out of the blue they won. Memphis lost the title because Hightower who was looking directly at the Kansas guards foot out of bounds didn't make the call (I'll find the photo). That guard flipped the ball blindly to Mario Chalmers who hit a 3 with time running out to send it to overtime.

We lost in OT because Dorsey fouled out on the most BS call ever made guarding a guy past the 3 point line with 2:12 left in the game. We were up 9 at that point.

That tournament was the first FF that all four teams were #1 seeds. First time in NCAA history. We beat a #1, #2, and a Tom Izzo's team (forgot their seed) to get to that championship game. We blew out all three of them, and all three of them are on this list.

They've said 2008 Memphis and Houston (Phi Slamma Jamma), were the two best teams in NCAA history not to win a national title.

You are off on your sequence of events, but that was a major contributing factor in the closing minute of play.

UH definitely hasn't been a T-25 program of the 21st century. And I say that as an absolute die hard fan. Last 5 years? Absolutely. But if we're going back all the way to 2000 then we're including 4 years of Ray McCallum and 4 years of James Dickey. That's 8 years of mediocrity right there. Then you've got 6 years of Penders where we were decent but still only got into the big dance once. Then finally you get to Sampson where it still took a few years to get the train rolling.

I also don't have a problem with Memphis being on the list though I do think you guys should refrain from calling other programs Johnny come lately's as the same could easily be said about yall's football. Also the Calapari years are starting to cross into the realm of ancient history. js

Had this list been of the last 10 years I would think Memphis would be lumped off and perhaps Wichita and Cincy might've been on there.

Lastly, because it seems there was some Memphis-Baylor comps, I want to point out that this article was written the day before the last year's national championship game. I have zero doubt that if the writer wrote this article today or even just two days after they did right this, Baylor would not only be on the list but they'd be waaay higher than Memphis. The reason I say that isn't so much to poke Memphis fans but to point out that every team that won a national championship during this century made the top 11.
