Interesting since Stony Brook already has football, which means they make room for a non football school addition if they come on board. If these were full adds, we would have 11 CAA football schools and 12 basketball schools. Add one more team with football and one without football and you are to 12 in CAA football and 14 in basketball.

Basketball

North - Hofstra, NU, Stony Brook, Monmouth, Drexel, Delaware, Towson
South - CofC, UNCW, Elon, W&M, Hampton, UNCG, Campbell

Now, I am not at all excited about adding any of those northern schools or Hampton, but if we could bring on Campbell and UNCG to create a South division i'm good.

Campbell??? Hell no. Winthrop.

The rest is speculation and fan hope.

Bottom line…

This conference is trash and getting worse.

Yep. Poor leadership and vision leads to poor results. We were never going to just stumble into a functioning, strong CAA.

Hope we dip out and go join the SoCon. The CAA is a freaking disaster.

Not only that, but it entertains me how many of you thought/think that any sort of CAA expansion is going to work out.

The CAA is about to add Hampton. Lmao.

Hampton left the MEAC for the Big South 2-3 years ago. A&T followed them a year or two later. A&T hosted Hampton this week in what is supposed to be the new rivalry for both schools.

It would be strange for Hampton to switch conferences so quickly.

Winston Salem State and NC Central will always be A&T's biggest rivals.

It looks like the north is going to get Fairfield, Monmouth, and Stony Brook while the south gets Howard and Hampton with Towon being in the south division

CAA North
Northeastern, Farfield, Monmouth, Stony Brook, Hofstra, Drexel, Delaware

CAA South
Towson, Howard, Hampton, W&M, Elon, UNCW, Charleston

Baltimore to Charleston is better than Boston to Charleston

Other than that benefit id still say that UNCW and Charleston joining the SoCon would be my preference

I don't mind the idea of the SoCon. Especially if Charleston goes too. But once again, unless something has changed, they will not take non football schools. UNCG is there because they are grandfathered in.

As usual, I always wait until the product is on the floor. We'll see. If we go N/S I really don't care who is added in the north. But if the Hampton add is true, they would be an awful add to the South.

Hampton, W&M, Elon, UNCW, CofC plus 2. Unless we added two powerhouse basketball schools, Elon, Hampton and W&M are perenially bad and do nothing for UNCW.

Potential SoCon East:
VMI, UNCG, UNCW, Charleston, Citadel, WCU

Potential CAA South
Towson, Howard, Hampton, W&M, Elon, UNCW, Charleston

Which is more desirable?

I'm thinking our administration leans with the latter

Depends on what CofC does. The CAA South probably looks like trash to them

To them?

I don’t care what they do.

This looks like trash to me, and should look like trash to UNCW.

Don't disagree. But I can't see CofC sticking around for that CAA South group, which means we wouldn't either.

While I'm definitely not a fan of how this is looking, I suspect both UNCW and Charleston stay, even if the SoCon is interested

Geographically the divisional footprint is a bus league that has a footprint of the original ACC. That is a major improvement over what we have now.

Looking at institutional likeness, I just don't see UNCW and Charleston choosing to affiliate with two Southern military academies and Western Carolina over W&M, Elon, and Howard. UNCG, Charleston and UNCW being in a division together would be nice, but I just don't think the university leaders would want to be trade W&M for VMI and Elon for Western.

The fact that not one Carolinas based school is looking to be added is garbage, but I believe the university leadership will still see the CAA as our best option

Let's go fighting Brandon Beane's!

I know it would never happen, but I don't understand why we don't form a non football conference. Plenty of schools in NC, SC, VA, MD, PA, TN and FL that could make it work. I hate the mixed up football/basketball conferences. I'm sure someone's mentioned it before, but if so I missed it, and was thinking about it tonight.

NC - UNCW, UNCG, UNCA, High Point
SC - CofC, Winthrop, Upstate
VA - Longwood, Radford. GMU/VCU aren't leaving A10
FL - Florida Gulf Coast, North Florida, Jacksonville
MD - Loyola, Middle Eastern Shore, Mount Saint Mary, UMBC
TN - Lipscomb, Belmont
PA - Drexel

Pick 12 or 14 teams and get the hell out of the CAA.

Because you can't just form a conference and be recognized by the NCAA and participate in their tournament. They have rules based on longevity of your conference. The ASUN has come the closest to forming this type of conference, but their plan takes too many schools to commit to what amounts to a leap of faith.

So you're left with being part of an existing conferenc

Yup. New conferences go 8 years without an auto bid. Just not feasible to start a new one

That's why I think our administration will be content with a division from Baltimore to Charleston, even though we look to be getting screwed by not getting at least a Campbell or Winthrop to throw us a bone
