Nebraska and Northwestern open the season Aug. 27 in Dublin. Illinois will host Wyoming the same day as well.
On Sept. 3, there are two conference games, Penn State at Purdue and Illinois at Indiana. Also Notre Dame is at Ohio State. Unless the Fighting Irish have a "Week 0" game, it will be both school's openers.
On Sept. 17, Penn State goes to Auburn in the return game from this past season. Nebraska hosts Oklahoma. Michigan State travels to Washington.
On Sept. 24, we have a pretty big crossover game when Wisconsin travels to Ohio State.
On Oct. 1, West Champion Iowa looks for revenge when they host East Champion Michigan in a rematch of the Big Ten Championship Game. Hopefully it will be more competitive.
On Oct. 8, Michigan State will get their first big test when Ohio State comes to town.
Oct. 15 features Penn State going to Michigan and Wisconsin at Michigan State.
Iowa won the Big Ten West but didn't play either Ohio State or Michigan last year (or Michigan State). In 2022, Iowa will have to play both Michigan (Oct. 1) and Ohio State (Oct. 22, at Columbus)! If Iowa repeats in the Big Ten West they will likely have earned it.
Once again Ohio State/Penn State and Michigan State/Michigan are the same week (Oct. 29)! And it also looks like it will be World Series Saturday again! Looks like one of these games will be vs. the World Series. I will say the original date for OSU/PSU was supposed to be Oct. 1 so later in the season is better and the original schedule had Ohio State and Michigan back to back. Oct. 29 is the last open date for any Big Ten team. All Big Ten teams play four conference games in November ... unlike that other conference.
Last year Iowa was undefeated and #2 in the country until they played Purdue. The rematch is Nov. 5 ... at Purdue.
Unfortunately for the "Big Three", they don't have really good November schedules before Rivalry Week:
Ohio State: at Northwestern, Indiana, at Maryland
Michigan: at Rutgers, Nebraska, Illinois
Penn State: at Indiana, Maryland, at Rutgers
Of course Michigan at Ohio State is the season finale (Nov. 26). Penn State hosts Michigan State the same day (not sure if that was the same as the original schedule).
The Big Ten should just go ahead and change all of the "future schedules" now. The Michigan/Michigan State series in the future schedules will have to be flipped.
Also of note at least from Penn State's point of view is that they are not playing either Iowa (their supposed "rival" in the past six year cycle) or Illinois (their supposed new "rival"). Penn State's Western Division games are Purdue, Northwestern, and Minnesota. Illinois isn't playing Penn State or Rutgers (their "old" rival). Ohio State isn't playing Nebraska. Their rumored new rival was going to be Wisconsin and they are playing in 2022. Either the Big Ten scrapped the "new" rivals or they changed them.
