Why do we think Tech is getting $500,000? Was that announced somewhere?

La Tech is only getting $500,000 so Missouri's self-entitled SEC program can have seven home games and help podunk Columbia's struggling economy.

The series was initially scheduled in like 2013 or 2014. Mizzou had been trying for years to rearrange the schedule to allow for 7 home games in 2022. At first they tried to get MTSU to flip the 2022 and 2023 games so that Mizzou could be home in 22 and in Murfreesboro in 23. MTSU declined. Then Mizzou offered money to get them to do that and MTSU still declined because of their own scheduling situation in 2023.

Mizzou is paying the buyout per the contract. I understand some of the frustration on the part of Blue Raiders fans but this had been in the works for several years. I was in Murfreesboro over the summer and was planning on coming back if the game went as scheduled but such is life.

He's not an MT fan.

Anyway, this is just the business of big boy college football. It's not a big deal. The only way this really becomes a problem for us is if the three members departing for the Sun Belt leave this year. That will leave us needing to schedule five games between now and this summer.

So why schedule a road game at Kansas State for 2022? A series with K-State that was scheduled in 2017 two years after Missouri agreed to its 3-game series with Middle Tennessee? It's clear to me that Missouri gave Kansas State priority simply because they are a Power 5 school and former Big XII opponent. It doesn't change the fact that Missouri expected MTSU to bend over backwards for them while Missouri would've never done the same for a school like MTSU.

I agree with most of that. It's how the power structure works in college football unfortunately. Mizzou has a different AD and a different coaching staff from 2017 so those previous scheduling situations were inherited and they probably felt less obligation to fulfill them. Eli Drinkwitz in particular did not want to play 6 road games and start the season on the road back to back. I hope it works out okay for MTSU and if the 2023 game goes as scheduled I look forward to seeing them for a third time. They were very competitive in both the 2003 (OT Mizzou win) and beating us in 2016.

The 2023 game needs to be renegotiated as a single-game guarantee since Missouri breached the contract of the 3-game series. A single-game guarantee would pay and SHOULD pay over $1 Million from an $EC school. Anything less would be unacceptable.

Ugh. Lost that 2003 game in OT on a freggin missed extra point. Probably about as agonizing for us as it was for y’all in that ‘16 slugfest.

And AllforOne, the ‘23 game will now be a guarantee but I haven’t yet heard what the number will be.

That 2003 game was pretty wild. Mizzou needed a TD and a 2 point conversion to force OT and then like you said MTSU scored first in OT but missed the XP. Mizzou gets a TD but an inexplicable unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for the celebration and has to make a 35 yard XP to win. MTSU really played well that day. I just looked back at the Blue Raiders schedule that year and the week before the trip to CoMo, you all played at Clemson, and the week prior to that MTSU played in Athens against UGA. Brutal schedule.

That 2016 game was frustrating. Not really agonizing. That particular Mizzou team was in total rebuild mode particularly on defense. We simply could not stop MTSU that day. Mizzou rebounded a little bit at the end of that year and upset Arkansas but I don't feel like that MTSU win was an upset. Better team won.
