Could it be that they're all ashamed of USM? At least one of them had the SBC cap on.

I think you're reading too much into it. While I'm sure they all have access to nice USM attire, it might've been one of those cases they wanted to be at the game and be casual.

Honestly had it not been posted who they were I wouldn't had known.

Yeah, that’s some p*ss-poor representation aside from Bennett’s SBC cap.

You see, what they should’ve done there was traded for end zone seats and brought a big Southern Miss flag to hold up for the TV camera during PATs & FGs.

There is a good chance some of those Georgia fans had a Southern flag laying around. Different Southern though.

I really don't see the big deal here.

When you're at the CFP Championship game as nothing more than an attendee, what's the harm in wearing a mask for the team that you're pulling for, especially if you have ties to that school? Listen, we're not talking about this guy just liking UGA and thinking it is a cool school from afar. He worked there. He has roots there and likely interacted with some of these players at some point. He can cheer for UGA in this game and still live and breathe for USM every morning he gets up. If USM wasn't on his mind, he wouldn't be wearing the SBC hat.

While I understand you’re being facetious, I’m not suggesting that at all.

At the same time, the fan base should absolutely be vocal that this is embarrassing. If he hears that the fan base doesn’t like it, maybe he won’t do it again in the future.

You Coastal folks are something else. Not that big of a deal.
Don't sell yourself or your school short. I'd be surprised if that happened for any other P5 school representative, solely for bad representation reasons/backlash. Heck, even the NIU coach wore NIU gear to the game. At least it's not another In State school and he was rocking some SBC gear too.I know that if our admins had on some Gamecock gear or something, that'd be the absolute worst.

Presidents, Chancellors, and ADs move from one school to another during their careers as job openings appear and career opportunities beckon. Most are not Alums of the University where they are employed and to expect them to live, breath, and represent the University 24/7 is totally unreasonable. They had a life before they came to the University and they will have a life after they leave the University. Focus on something important not this petty BS.05-stirthepot

Actually as a President of a University you are expected to represent them 24/7. As the face, anything you do in your personal time can positively or negatively impact the university. That's kind of what you sign up for taking that high of a position...If he's an alum, there is certainly some justification...but not so much for a past employer in my eyes, especially once you have moved on and holding a head position at an equivalent destination. Unless you don't feel they are equivalent...which is why I have issues with it.

That was a bit of an inside joke. We have a guy who hosts a USM podcast who for some reason known only to the voices in his head does that very thing. He was most recently spotted at the Sugar Bowl.

Not sure why that’s a bad thing. Similar to the whole Washington State flag thing at every College Gameday since like forever.

Rep the school all the time, everywhere, in every possible way. Why not?

Ehh I disagree, I think the Washington State flag and other non-related team flags/signs at GameDay are kind of weird and obnoxious too. A game is about the two teams there, especially a bowl game. Going to the game but wearing team gear for your team who isn't in the game is one thing but waving a big flag is another. GameDay isn't near as bad since it's a show about all of college football that week but still a little weird and like you're barging in on another school's moment. A little like the dbags chanting VCU while JMU was cutting down the nets in Richmond after VCU had left the conference.

Exactly. It’s a Golden Rule thing. You’d want to slap anybody who did it at your own school’s game, so don’t do it at somebody else’s.

Also agreed that GameDay is different situation.
