Basketball school?
Would you trade our fb program for BGs... to have consistent mbb and wbb NCAA tourney teams? Start averaging 10k for fb but sell out Savage every game?

No. Both FB and MBB should be champions. BG has a small arena. I think attendance when Toledo played there was 3,800. This is a lose-lose scenario.

Don't understand the premise of the question. BG's MBB team hasn't been to the NCAA since 1968. Their WBB had some good runs, but even they haven't been to the NCAA's since 2011. Where are their consistent NCAA tourney teams?

I believe UofToledoFans is asking, would you sacrifice football success to have consistent NCAA tournament basketball teams and a sold out Savage? In other words, would you be okay with having a football program like BG's if you had highly successful basketball teams?

RE: Basketball school?
This is what we should expect every year for WBB and in 3/4 years for MBB. Is there any reason to expect less? Now we get FB back where they should be and KEEP the BB momentum going. UTFans...no need to trade anything with BG! All they do is take our ad revenue and attention from the Blade.
Go Rockets!

We already don’t have football success.

If Toledo didn't have the football history, sure, let's go all in for b-ball, but the school has enjoyed success in football and bball teams. I was a football team fan first when I was a kid.

Rockets are ranked #20 for FBS winning% in the 2010's.
ND and UM are ranked below UT.

Im sure ND fans love making the playoffs and getting stomped and losing in every NY6 game. Michigan was also 1 season from firing Harbaugh AND have been dominated by MSU and OSU. Michigan was literally known as a basketball school for the past decade until this year.

RE: Basketball school?
this is not a serious conversation as too much is invested in football to give that up. so, for purposes of message board masturbation I'd say that I'd miss football to a degree but wonder if focusing in on basketball is forward thinking. Not a lot of boys playing football these days and with head injury and health concerns of the sport its future is not certain. As many kids play serious e-sports now as play actual real sports. I mean, I grew up playing football. We played tackle on the street and in the schoolyard with no pads, as well as on youth and high school teams and I'm glad I played and actually got injured worse playing baseball. Still, I see football trending toward pro and big time college leagues and not a lot else, which leaves the mid and small size schools in question. As far as University level sports I'd give up football if it meant a wider range of competitive sports for men and women at UT. With title IX having football means cutting a lot of other options for male athletes and perhaps we shouldn't be afraid to weigh the value of a broad range of good programs vs the huge budget football requires. I mean we got a decent football coach who alone gets paid as much as 10 top professors or 20 non-revenue sports assistants, and no one wants the guy around.

Excellent points, pono. Without football, UT would have men's track, soccer, and who knows what else. I am not a football fan, so this question is an easy one for me. I would like to go to some men's track meets and soccer games.

- Like it or not, college football stirs the drink at most universities and the major players (o$u, Notre Dame, UM) funnel a lot of $$$ supplementing non revenue sports ...
Sadly, that is not the case at UT !! The money just is not there ...
Myself, I think there should be a salary cap across the board for football and yes, even basketball salaries... Also reducing FB scholarships down to 70 or maybe even 65 would save quite a bit and could be implemented without major negative consequence...
But if flat out eliminating football is the end game, which it seems that some want to happen, watch the donor money quickly dry up...
And get back to me when you start seeing several thousand at a soccer game or track meet as opposed to 20,000+ in the Glass Bowl... Things need to be kept in check, but scrapping football altogether should never be an option !!
