Kevin Sumlin Back Coaching in Houston
Coaching this new USFL for a team called the Houston Gamblers. Every AAC team should share a picture of Sumlin at every new football HC contract signing, "this is what happens when you going chasing a5 glory"

RE: Kevin Sumlin Back Coaching in Houston
Technically, he will be coaching in Birmingham, as the entire League will practice and play their games at either Legion Field (approx 25% of the games) and the new Prof drive Stadium (75% of games).

With tiny crowds expected.for.all games not involving the Birmingham team...tv.ratings will wane.

League is hoping to survive after their first season so that teams can play in their hometowns next year.

It worked for the NBA (Orlando bubble)

Also historically Birmingham is the best city in the world for professional non-NFL football

NBA "survived" because they have billions in their TV Deal...and even though their ratings tanked...they were able to get in their abbreviated season.

USFL doesn't have a TV contract worth billions.

Yes, Birmingham had shown good support for their own professional teams in the past...but are they going to show up for the Tampa Bay Bandits vs Pittsburgh Maulers?

How many people in Birmingham will show up to see the New Orleans Breakers vs the Philadelphia Stars?

Thats the $64,000 question...as fans at stadiums help provide a much better tv production.

Holy crap, did they really resuscitate all the classic USFL franchises (or names)?

Call me a USFL geek, but I would go see a Stars-Breakers reboot-rematch. Especially if you sprinkle in a handful of “name” coaches& players.

(Said the dude who used the old (and hopefully new) Houston Gamblers logo for his AAC fantasy football team logo couple years back.)

But it ain’t really the $64,000 question. This is the USFL.
It’s the $3 question

Thars #DenverGold in them thar hills!

I'm not sure what the problem is in "chasing a5 glory". Worst case scenario is they get fired and get paid a lot of money to do nothing.

Who is Kevin Sumlin?

Also, saw a Denver Gold vs. Oakland Invaders game back in the day.

It’s not about fans showing up. This is really a made for TV league. The city won’t shut the games down for Covid. The league will use the new Protective Stadium and Legion Field. The city is giving the league half a million with a non binding agreement to rent 40,000 rooms.

Dude earned something like $30 million during his time at TAMU, plus whatever he earned at Arizona. Not really the cautionary tale you seem to want it to be.

This year yes...but if it wants to survive...it will need good support from most teams local fan base.

There's a reason why the NBA and even NFL ratings dropped during the pandemic when fans were not allowed inside the arenas/stadiums...as LIVE FANS actually help a tv production.

I do think there is a market for a spring football league....but somehow, they always get screwed up.

Hope this one can last...as it really can help players under the radar.
