I'd guess the wraparound probably won't happen on the south end with the expansion project you have going on there, but here's what 65,000 would have looked like:

I think we could do something similar to that but with the new Launch Club building taking up the endzone instead of those seats.

Yes, since the original design expandable to 65k (opened in 2007, designed in 2005 or so - maybe earlier?) revenue models have changed greatly. With larger ultra-hd TV's becoming more and more affordable since that design, their has been a focus less on pure seating numbers and more on a more premium experience (which generates greater profits). The design doesn't include the more premium Cabana Club that has been built opposite Roth Tower and Launch Club is next. Then again, we've been doing this on a CUSA then AAC revenues that pale in comparison to B12, maybe plans will change...

RE: ***B12 Facilities Thread***
Wow - away briefly and there’s a deluge of activity here…

To answer the question about fan behavior towards visitors at Allen Fieldhouse, I think that it’s generally positive. We have our share of jerks and/or drunks like any program, but my experience is that people are generally pretty welcoming. There may be some good-natured ribbing, but usually nothing out of hand.

Many years ago we got pranked in our own place - KSU fans snuck in and rigged banners to drop on our main scoreboard. They really got us with that one.

I think visiting fans from new schools will also appreciate the atmospheres at several other conference venues. I see ISU and KSU have both chimed in - both definitely have passionate fan bases with whom I’ve never had any issues. Hilton definitely has some magic (often to our chagrin) and KSU hoops has their “octagon of doom”. Loud fans aside I actually find the venue itself to be a bit generic, but I may be harshly judging it in comparison to its predecessor Ahearn Field House, which was another older venue with a lot of passion and history.

Oklahoma State’s Gallagher-Iba is another interesting place - originally a small venue which had an addition built on top.

The coldest I have ever been was at an ISU/Kansas football game in December at Jack Trice. Snow and the wind blowing a sustained 35 right out of the North.

God, that was crazy.

The AD has talked about stadium expansion but that'll be well off into the future. Expanding Nippert is probably at least a decade away. The AD wants to see what attendance is like with Big 12 opponents, increased ticket prices, and if the team goes through an average year or two or a down year. If expansion makes sense then they will likely expand by about 6-8k seats with 10k seats being the absolute max. A lot of those seats would be premium seats too (where the money and roi is). Right now the focus is on the 100 million dollar Day One Ready campaign. Which you can find more info on here: https://gobearcats.com/sports/2021/11/8/...ships.aspx The main things are building the permanent IPF, upgrades to Nippert's ribbon boards and sound system, updated scoreboards for tennis, soccer, and baseball, and improved men's and women's basketball facility stuff

I went to Ohio State but Michigan is my favorite stadium in the country so far that I've been to with Nippert a close second.

Only have been to 6 though so not many but Ohio State looks to be similar to many SEC schools.

Ranking of the 5:
1) Michigan - It feels like 110k and is built below the ground like Nippert. Tailgating on the golf course 200 yards away from entrance was great as well. Sound escapes some, but definitely recommend.

2) Cincinnati - Nippert is so unique and the game day tailgating felt big time this past year. Most enjoy the night games (Nip at Night) but I still prefer the 12 PM start time as I love tailgating in the morning. Extremely loud for 40k. Houston this year was a blast and believe the announcers noted the noise multiple times. Sound bounces off all the surrounding buildings. Definitely get recommendations if you visit as many have issues with bathroom times, but there actually are plenty available if your willing to walk an extra minute.

3) Ohio State - I know all the secrets and 105k for big games is wild and I would think louder than Michigan.

4) Tennessee - I enjoy their fight song just not after every good play. On the river and good tailgating. SEC atmosphere.

5) Notre Dame - Knockoff of Michigan. I believe they replicated the Big House when they built it. Great atmosphere but was a little overrated IMO.

6) Kentucky - Wannabe SEC atmosphere but just isn't. Haha I hate Kentucky so biased but still would be 6 out of the 6 ranked regardless.

Bucket List:
1) LSU - Not when Brian Kelly is their HC though

2) Looking forward to Big 12 stadiums and arenas! All look great! Oklahoma St., BYU, and WV would likely be the first three I want to see. I'm 5-6 years removed from college so looking forward to visiting many in the years to come.

I graduated in 2017 so been out of college about the same time. This was my first year of really traveling to away games. I went to Ohio State's stadium back in 2019 and was pretty unimpressed and let down. Just my opinion but it's not that great of a stadium. This year we went to Indiana, Notre Dame, Navy, South Florida, and Cotton Bowl CFP. It so fun traveling for games. I'm really excited to travel to all the Big 12 teams. Don't mean to sound like an a-hole to our AAC brothers but it'll be cool to travel to conference games where fanbases are large and passionate. I feel like the only big and passionate fanbases in the AAC are UC, UCF, and ECU. Memphis is kinda passionate too

I know that covering up the vocal music building is off the table now, but it'd be awesome to see the eastern upper deck expanded.

Really most of the 90k+ stadiums are pretty average for most games besides exception stadiums like Michigan, LSU, Texas A&M, UCLA Rose Bowl, etc. off top of my head. I wish I got to visit PSU as a lot say that is the best in Big 10 but looks pretty similar to Ohio State's on TV. Also, had a buddy that had some bad issues when he went and was with his cousin who went to PSU. When Ohio State plays Michigan it is a one in a kind experience. Same goes for games against top 10 teams, but this is Big 12 board so I'll get back on topic.

It is great to have passionate fanbases at all the schools with a couple exceptions for particular sports and would agree UC, UCF, ECU, and Memphis are the best fanbases in The American.

Houston I could see a lot of growth with sustained success. They look to have both the basketball and football coach to do it. Being a professional sports town, we in Cincy know it can be hard to compete, but a Big XII invite should help both schools. The few times I've visited Houston, it seems to be a big Texas A&M city though. Can't wait to see the growth UC see's this decade!

Haha I thought those were garbage when they came out and still are. I hate the curves.

The current AD noted if we do further expand we will not block the south end zone building. It really makes the stadium and is the iconic piece. Further expansion would be 1) The north end zone where nothing is being done in those renderings and 2) Possibly a redone east side upper deck if demand is high enough.

Further premium seating would be added in either case.

Most on the UC fans say say we can't get past 5-8k more seats but if we do the east side upper deck as well, I don't see why we couldn't add 15k more if needed. Either way I would expect 8-12k if expansion occurs this decade when all is said and done with final number of 48-52k seats which is perfect IMO.

Yeah, they have the most juggernaut potential. Texans are football crazy and will show up for a winner. Miami almost cut their football program in the 70s. Then they ruled college football for two decades.

Generic is fair. Especially in comparison to Ahearn. Bramlage is nice. And when we're going good, it lives up to the "octagon of doom" nickname. But I'd rank it mid-pack in the XII, at best.

I haven't seen anyone else's venues in person. But I'd put basketball trips to KU, OSU, and ISU at the top of my wish list. Allen Fieldhouse is iconic. Besides AFH itself and the game experience, I assume the museum is pretty cool.

I haven't seen anyone else's venues in person. But I'd put basketball trips to KU, OSU, and ISU at the top of my wish list. Allen Fieldhouse is iconic. Besides AFH itself and the game experience, I assume the museum is pretty cool.
The museum is cool for people who appreciate sports history, even if it’s a rival’s history. I believe that AFH was actually built in response to Ahearn, so I think that you would enjoy it. Most of our fans may give you a little good natured banter but should treat you well even if you had Powercat gear on.

Personally, even though he hasn’t set the world on fire at South Carolina, I miss Frank Martin at KSU. I thought his intense personality brought something fun to the rivalry.

Just my $.02...

(Just facilities here...trying to minimize "Game Day Experiences," fan base interactions, etc... JUST THE STADIUMS.)

Football Stadiums:
1) Nippert Stadium (Cincinnati). One-of-a-kind, truly the "Wrigley Field" of College Football.
2) McLane Stadium (Baylor). Brand new and beautiful.
3) T. Boone Pickens (OSU). Intimate, no expenses spared.
4) LaVell Edwards Stadium (BYU). Iconic and Provo is a difficult place to win.
5) Ammon Carter Stadium (TCU). Classic but renovated.
6) Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium (WVU). Big, loud...cement.
7) Jack Trice Stadium (ISU). Big, loud...cement. Basically a tie with Mountaineer Field.
8) TDECU Stadium (Houston). New. Nice view of downtown Houston... New.
9) Jones AT&T Stadium (TTU). Don't have much to say either way on this one. Meh.
10) Memorial Stadium (KU). Classic façade. Thank God they lost the track.
11) "Bounce House"/Brighthouse Stadium (UCF). Basic. The stadium design doesn't do anything for me.
12) Snyder Family Stadium (KSU). Meh. Just...Meh.

Basketball:
1) Phog Allen Fieldhouse (KU). What can you say? It's THE place to see a game.
2) Gallagher-Iba Arena (OSU). A true gem and under-rated.
3) Hilton Coliseum (ISU). Another great basketball arena.
4) West Virginia Coliseum (WVU). Really not a bad seat in the house...but somewhat generic.
5) Bramlage Coliseum (KSU). Eh...The "Octagon" is at least distinctive.
6) 5/3 Arena (UC). Much better since the renovations; like Nippert in the heart of campus.
7) United Supermarkets Center (TTU). Nice façade, but interior is bland.
8) Marriot Center (BYU). Meh. Decent arena, but not much to distinguish it from among its peers.
9) Schollmaier Arena (TCU). Meh. Decent arena, but again, not much to distinguish it from its peers.
10) Ferrell Center (Baylor). Meh. Decent arena...Baylor looking to replace it in a few years anyway.
11) Fertitta Center (Houston). It's a renovated Hoffheinz arena.
12) Amway Center (UCF). What can I say...it's a building with a basketball court...no doubt better than what it replaces, but...

Again, my not-so-unbiased opinion. I will say that I have not been in several of these buildings myself and have to rely on what the TV shows of them and other, general reports. But, surprisingly, I have been in many of these buildings over the years...in some cases before renovations and afterwards as well. Again, you'll probably tell me that I've ranked some of these criminally "too low," and that "if you just attended a game there" that "you'd feel differently." And probably so. But, like armpits we all have a couple of opinions...and whether they stink or not...these are mine.

I've also read about AFH being built in response to Ahearn. K-State's response to AFH was to build KU a second home at Bramlage.

I agree with the visiting fan treatment. Go in with a thick skin, be respectful, and most fans will be welcoming. I feel like that's the way it is at all XII schools.

I enjoyed the Huggins/Martin years. They definitely brought some excitement back into KSU basketball. I'm not a Bruce Weber hater. He did get us to a couple of shared XII titles and an elite 8 run. But it's time for him to go. We're on one of the worst runs we've ever had these last 2+ seasons. Hopefully we make a change after this season and find someone to put some fun and intensity back into our program.

Nippert Stadium is named after a player too. James "Jimmy" Gamble Nippert who passed away after getting a spike wound during a football game. The spike wound got infected and James passed away after some short time (died on Christmas day). James's Nipperts grandfather, James Gamble (son of the founders of Procter and Gamble), was moved by the death of his grandson and donated 250,000 dollars for the completion of the stadium. Nippert stadium is the 3rd oldest stadium in the FBS. Carson Field, the name of Nippert's field, is the second oldest playing site for football, with only Penn's Franklin Field being older.

I actually love what Cincinnati has done with that stadium. Think you can wedge 10,000 more seats in there? One of these days (probably when I retire), I want buy a nice RV and tour stadiums around the country and Nippert is near the top of my list (Michie is #1). Good luck getting me to try your weird-ass Skyline Chili though! Sounds more like spicy spaghetti. =p

Remember these renderings?

I know that covering up the vocal music building is off the table now, but it'd be awesome to see the eastern upper deck expanded.

I said 6-8k seats with 10k max because that's what AD John Cunningham said in the meeting with donors. It isn't just some nonsense that fans are making up, it's straight from the AD's mouth. Could they expand past that? Yeah I'm sure they could go above 10k. But it sounds like the athletic department isn't looking at going above 10k. 10k would get us to 47k total seats which I think is plenty. Honestly, if we get to 45k or so then we are right there with TCU and Baylor in stadium size and I think that would be perfect for UC.

Yeah, they have the most juggernaut potential. Texans are football crazy and will show up for a winner. Miami almost cut their football program in the 70s. Then they ruled college football for two decades.

You quoted the wrong person, you meant to quote natibeast. But I agree with natibeast said in that Houston could build a lot with Big 12 membership. If they can continue to win games and have great seasons in the Big 12 then I think they can attract the fans.

Doug Gottlieb had the most accurate quote about Hilton:

Quote:Doug Gottlieb
@GottliebShow
Hilton is awesome, pretty basic arena, no frills..people make the place #HiltonMagic

Just like Jack Trice, it's big and cement. But the four newbies will get sick of hearing the term "Hilton Magic" real quick.

Hey, what’s wrong with the Amway Center? A $500 million NBA quality arena.
