“We had to protect home court,” an adamant Jones said of his team’s maiden voyage in the new conference. “It means something to us. And the guys who played tonight laid it on the line. One-and-0 in the Big South, shorthanded. We showed some character tonight. It’s a big win for us.”

“We don’t know what (the future of) COVID is going to look like,” Jones said of his and his team’s mindset and preparation for the opener. “So, we need to win every time we have a chance to play. Right now, we’re 1-0 and that’s what we talked about all week.”

Good job Aggies

GREENSBORO — With N.C. A&T’s student body still on winter break, it was unusually quiet in Club Corbett the night the Aggies played their first men’s basketball game in the Big South Conference.

Quiet, but still magic.

Home is home, after all. And this is A&T’s Club.

Demetric Horton scored 26 points on 10-for-13 shooting, and Marcus Watson finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds as short-handed A&T defeated Presbyterian 65-57 at the Corbett Sports Center on Wednesday.

The Aggies’ long-awaited Big South debut drew an actual crowd that looked a lot smaller than the official 821 paid attendance.

And it wasn’t just people in the bleachers missing. A&T played without four of its guards ― two starters and two reserves ― isolated after positive COVID-19 tests.
